People slamming weights. It is gettng worse. Deadlifts bouncing off the wood platforms and people letting go of weight stacks (lat pulldowns) at the top of the rep letting them smash.

Yesterday was a nightmare
I wanna like this post a thousand times.

So ****ing annoying

Bouncing deadlifts are ridiculous.
I think I've only seen someone deadlift in our gym like 2 or 3 times in 2 years..

I tried the exercise for a while but when lowering the weight it didn't seem quite right so I have abandoned it.

Bouncing deadlifts I agree with.

I dont have any issue if somoene is deadlifting properly and with heavy weights, I dont like it, but I accept it. I have seen many perform the exercise with very little noise and its obvious they are respecting their environment, even though its acceptable for them to make noise.

However, there is a guy that does Pendlay Rows in the morning, for which I swear is just for the purpose of deliberately slamming the weights into the ground to make as much noise as possible.

I went from deadlifts to RDL and never looked back. For me its a far superior exercise for hamstrings and glutes and less taxing on the CNS.

Whilst he was banging 180kg for a couple on the ground, i did 4 reps of 160kg RDL just to highlight his stupidity
If my math is right and given RDL to Deadlift ratio is 20-25% more you should be doing a deadlift of ~200kg. :thumbsu:

I feel like this “throwing/bouncing weights” convo has been had before and I made the point that old school iron paradise, go for it, modern commercial gym, don’t, have a think about the other patrons” and some ******** got all MRA about it.

I tend to think if you can’t put it down don’t pick it up personally.

i dont mind slamming weights if youre doing heavy deadlifts.

find people who make a point of screaming during every rep of a leg press / leg curl set far more annoying.
I think even the deadlifts depends on the gym.

If you’re at a zap or anytime or whatever nah.

fair - I’ve never been to one of (for lack of better word) casual chain gyms so cant speak to what etiquette is like there.
It’s just really consideration for gym goers who aren’t iron munchers. I’m not personally concerned with blokes (it’s usually blokes) tossing their shit around and grunting or whatever but I can understand that other people don’t like it/can be intimidated by it.
