Yes. But a lot of people get that confused with nationalism.

If a black or Asian person says they are proud of their race, it's ok.

But when a white person does it, they are racist. There are a lot of double standards out there.

I think un Australian is a ridiculous term.
There is a notion that goodness and egalitarianism are mutual Australian traits.
Australians generally are really decent people.( I say that despite being called a Pommy Bastard for 33 years.) Australians are generous and friendly, but not all. There are some awful people, but they are still Australians.
Each nation has some fine people and some terrible people.
Racism is wrong.
Saying that anything is un Australian is wrong too I reckon.
People running around with Australian flags wrapped around them probably think they are great Australians, whereas Fred Hollows probably never gave it any thought and was as great an Australian as any person ever born !

What is Australian?

Then we will take it from there.

^Any citizen of this country.

^When I say unAustralian, I basically just mean a bad trait, and I'm sure most people are smart enough to interpret it in that way too (as opposed to not having good traits that are somehow unique to Australia, as such traits would be shared with many other countries too).

Fred Hollows was greatness.

Yes, it is dam right un-Australian to be racist. But at the same time we are as a nation inherently racist, we don't allow multiple marriages for cultures that have them and we don't allow pedophilia to occur even if one culture (New Guinea) has been practicing it for centuries. The problem is finding that middle ground, and sometimes it is very hard to find.

Sorry I can't agree with you.
That in itself is a racist and simplistic position. Having a system of ethics laws and certain cultural attributes which develop over time is not racist.
Do you see how rediculous what you just said is. Then all nations would be racist, yet how can a nation in itself be racist?

Your stance or the question you raised would be more relevant to a Freedoms vs Rights argument or more realistically an argument on the side of liberty as oposed to the rule of law. Even then you raise very complicated issues which could easily be refuted within those contexts. i.e. at what age does a person gain the right to choose/engage in sexual activity based on physical and emotional development.

And yes I will pipe in with the obligatory racism is bad, just please don't over generalise because what you said could be construed as racist itself.

It's a shame that idiots rarely have enough intelligence to know that they aren't smart.

Being rascist is very Australian.
Just tie your flag cape on and go find some one to hate who is different to you or who is un Australian
Chant Aussie Aussie Aussie OI OI OI while you do it

I hate people who scream racism over nothing, and use it to their advantage.

We're a pretty racist country in the big scheme of things. I'd never be racist unless someone else started it...Sure I have my opinions on other cultures and religions. But what they dont know cant hurt them. :p

The only thing that would be "un-Australian" is treason.

So, no, racism is not "un-Australian".

Yes it is, the country was built on multiculturism, despite what the white supremacists like to think. You just have to look at the Gold Rush days & the huge Chinese population we had, then came the Italians, Greeks, Dutch, Vietnamese etc. etc.

We are a multicultural country & it's only been the last 10 years or so, that this stupid Nationalism & racism has become so bad , hmmm, wonder what the link is?

You think it's bad here, did you catch a show on monday night "Louis Theroux and the nazis" this guy followed around these 2 neo nazis. The rallies they went to in California were absolutley full of trailer trash skinhead hicks.

Funny thing is, one neo nazi had a friendship with a peruvian because he fixed his TV now and then, and the other slept with this mexican women every time they went to mexico (for whatever reason) - guess they are only nazis when it suits them - penis and cash come first!

Yep saw that show & laughed so hard, when he tried to deny that he actually had a friendship with the Peruvian, "I only pretend to keep him happy", yeah right. :D

The thing that upset me so much by that show, was how the twins Lynx & Lamb, who are called "Prussian Blue", are being so brainwashed, if you want to see what is so disturbing that the mother has called the girls group "Prussian Blue", google it.

I tend to agree, Australians are xenophobic more than anything. True racism is scarily prevalent in the US where the inherently racist perception that "non-whites" are less intelligent and/or capable than "whites" is almost taken as fact by many seemingly normal people.

Nationalism gets confused with patriotism that gets confused with a love of our nation of birth. :thumbsu:

Nationalism is an undercurrent for racism, it should not be the nation is a secular idea free from religion ect... I don't like being called white, because it's not a race.
