Only if racists out number intelligent people.

Not really. Nothing to do with racism. Multiculturalism waters down peoples culture, because there are always certain aspects of the host culture they will pick up, and certain aspects of their own they have to reject.

This slowly waters culture down.

So either there will be backlash to this, society becomes divided with groups trying to maintain their culture and nationalism starts to rear its head again.

Or we all merge into a single culture, and multiculturalism dies.

In Australia we have no culture though, we are multi religion, multi everyting, if you think we have a culture what is it?

What, so then we are just nothing? The dominant culture here is British/Western with our own unique aspects thrown in (slang, sports, food) loosely based on Judeo-Christian, liberal and secular values.

Sure there is a melting pot of people/ideas, but I think the above is the dominant culture.

An example that springs to mind of what I'm saying is one of my Indian friends - her parents want to arrange her marriage, and at the very least would be mortified to have her marry anyone but an Indian. But, 'Australian' values have taken hold and she feels she has the right to choose whoever she wants, and is planning on marrying a white guy.

Multiculturalism doesn't work except in small and gradual infusions and only for certain countries.

For countries with long and rich histories of culture, such as France and Japan, they don't need infusions of other cultures and massed immigration with dramatically different cultures have a negative effect.

For countries with simple cultures, like Australia in the first half of the 20thC, some infusion of culture is good for adding to the richness and diversity, but again massive immigration simply serves to dilute and separate.

Why is it that people feel only 'white'/western' countries need multiculturalism? There is no push for multiculturalism in other countries.

In addition some people confuse 'racism' with a dislike for or lack of interest in certain other cultures.
For example, I have a lot of Indian and Sri Lankan friends and colleagues. To me they are the same as everyone else I know, but with some cultural differences. In fact I love the mix of someone from another culture who becomes 'Australianised' but keeps some elements of their own culture.

However, I don't appreciate seeing the massive influx of Indians, especially students, who come to Australia, speaking a foreign language, separate from the locals, and with dramatically different cultural ideas. I've met quite a lot of them and individually they're generally nice people, but I don't want the impact of massed migration on both our culture (which has gradually become diffused with other ideas) and our lifestyle.

I generally agree.

what utter tosh

Australia has always had a predominantly Anglo Celtic culture. You only have to look at all the things we have in common.
