Absolute gun.

How many players in the league can play anywhere on the ground and do it better than almost everyone?

He can take a huge mark, kick with both feet with precision, win his own ball, kick goals, play centre, defence and forward.

If I could have any player in the league in my team, it would be him.

Dumb thread.

Maybe Panther wasn't so far off the mark with this.

Did we all fall for the hype after the drawn GF?

I was saying it for yonks and copped nothing but abuse from some halfwits on here.

Agree. I'm pretty sure I posted something about it in the big calls thread and copped heat for it.

Goddard's reputation is taking a real battering. With Hayes out he hasn't been able to rise up at all. Looks like the guy running around before his knee injury

running like a cliff young plodder. no acceleration at all. relying on the cheap receive to generate his ball. great kick, but has to start taking the lead and crash a few packs to generate some drive

Brendan Goddard is a good footballer, but definitely over-rated. Great kick, great mark, but no mental strength and too quick to get rid of the ball just to avoid taking a tackle (even if his team mate is not in good position to receive the ball). Even his grimace is unconvincing. He could learn a lot from the way Lenny Hayes plays football.

Credit to him for his performances in last year's grand finals. I also think he's toughened up since breaking his nose in the 2009 GF.

something isn't right with him this year that is for sure. Which is a shame because he is my favourite non Bomber to watch and I was hoping he would do some great things tonight.

I agree with everything you say except the bolded part. Goddard is the best kick in the league, although it wouldn't seem so right now. Even if you disagree with that, you can't keep him out of a top 3 or 5. It's as much his decision making and football smarts that make him a good kick as his boots. He never kicks too quickly and always utilises the time he has to pinpoint his passes.

It's more the team's form than Goddard's form that's making him seem worse. Even watching tonight, you see him deliver quality balls which are not always capitalised by the receiving player. The only time he is too quick to take a kick is when he's in the middle of the pack and needs to clear it - which isn't taking the kick too quick at all.
