Is Buckley A Good Coach?

The senior coach is an important club figure and a legitimate topic of discussion. It's fair to do so and everyone has a right to express their view.

The mod team observed that the thread was dominated by a few protagonists and their points were repeated i.e. 8 years of regression vs marked improvement in 17,18 etc Pretty much everyone with a strong opinion has already expressed it here.

What further degraded discussion was the simplistic "sack FIGJAM" or "he's a legend" type posts.

This thread will remain open. If your view has slightly shifted or you have new thoughts please share. In an effort to encourage quality discussion repetitive statements and circular arguments will from now on be deleted as will silly posts suggesting that we sack a coach on match-day.

Does anyone get the feeling that the team is just going through the motions?After Mihocek kicked the goal to put us back in front in the last quarter,we barely gave a yelp ,and let them do pretty much as they pleased.The same thing happened against GWS two weeks ago,We were down ten points halfway through the last quarter,and seemed to have all the momentum,yet we didn’t kick another score for the rest of the game,while they had another five shots at goal.

That suggests to me a team that isn’t really going flat out to win games.Every time we play these days,the other team looks far hungrier and more desperate than we do.It’s starting to become noticeable now,so you have to ask the question.Has Buckley lost the players already?Have they given up already?

The problem with Bucks is that he is too obsessed with structure and discipline and that old school work ethic mentality. This doesn't win games anymore. He's too stubborn to realise that. This current strategy is boring and predictable and just mentally draining for players and spectator alike. He needs to free up the players and let them play with flair and creativity. Right now, the players are totally devoid of any confidence. They are playing like they are too scared to make mistakes or get injured, which in effect, causes them to make mistakes and get injured. He's got nothing to lose now anyway. just free up the players and let them enjoy playing footy for once.

How many of the tactics Buckley uses come from some ridiculous theory or textbook that he himself doesn't necessarily believe in.. it's not only that his tactics are ****ed.. I don't think he ever believed in them.. he made the game very difficult from the the very beggining.. when all it's ever been about is having fun.. playing 50 shades of sexy football.. now there's no way out of it for Buckley.. he needs to start from scratch again.. and that would mean he's actually declaring to the world that he's been clueless all along. He ain't gonna do that.

I don't necessarily want to see Harvey or Sanderson take over as caretakers.. would love to see Mark Williams have a crack as our caretaker.. would be great. I think there's benefits there regardless of whoever does it.. we've seen the lads under Buckley.. why not see them play a different style of game under a caretaker coach.. overall.. get a better look at what these blokes can do under a variety of different styles of game. The next senior coach.. will benefit from this.

Yep. The way Treloar, Stevo were treated by him would have really left a sour taste in the mouth and attitude of the rest of the playing group.

The club could obfuscate all they wanted in the media regarding the situation, but the players left behind knew what happened.

I'm in favour of whoever.. more material for our next senior coach to work with.. even if it's Harvey or Sanderson.. you'll still get the lads playing a different style of game.. albeit might be shit.. but we might see some positional changes and tactics that work well with this group of lads.

Lol we are in trouble if they are that deluded. I was shocked we were favourites. I’m not a gambler but I was tempted to get some action on the bombers.
