Sports Is footy your number one sport?

The disappointment at the lack of EPL this weekend is just about stronger than the relief that AFL has returned for the year. Watershed moment that.

May I ask how long you've been a fan of football, and how long you've been following the EPL in particular?

I made that generalisation because he told me to 'go have another cry', not because he doesn't like football.

That, and he provided absolutely no reasoning behind his, erm, 'argument'.

It's important to distinguish between the sport and the competition, i.e. I love Aussie rules but I can't stand the AFL.

I care the most about St Kilda, i.e. happiest when they win/saddest when they lose.
But in terms of competition, VFL/Local Footy>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>*infinity*>>>>>>AFL.
In terms of sports, for me it's probably
Unlimited overs cricket>50/40 over cricket>footy>20 over cricket>motor sport>passing interest in soccer.

In terms of competitions
Test Cricket>ODI>AFL (if St Kilda is in the league)>F1>RBAR>VFL>IPL>Sheffield Sheild>Big Bash>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>AFL (if St Kilda folded/merged)

The only reason IPL is so high up is because its on FTA and I don't have foxtel, if I did, all the aus domestic competitions would be much higher up.

Generally AFL=winter, summer=cricket but given the choice I'd rather watch footy. So footy #1.

Only exceptions are when the World Cup and Olympics are on, easily the best sporting spectacles. And since I'm a loyal patriot I will watch most sports if Australia is being represented as a country.

Had a passing interest in the EPL for a rather lengthy period of time (since about 04 I'd say) , and I watched every world cup since 1998, but it's only been the last two or so years that I've really been getting into the sport.

I'd say that partially because it is the biggest game in the world, partially because my two mainstays (AFL and Cricket) have declined in quality considerably since late 90's-early 00's and I found football different and interesting.

Aye...I feel your pain. Got home last night from work think 'you beut...there'd be some PL game on right about now...I'll watch that for a bit then get to bed' only for my brother to remind me its a International Weekend

Really sad to see the quality of AFL drop, I used to live for the game.

I also have a passing interest with the Spurs (EPL) but no foxtel = no games to watch :(

Within two years, EPL will be your undisputed number one. It's a transition.

I went to the game today after being overseas for 5 years. Even in the 1st quarter, before the Dogs went shizenhausen, my old passion just wasn't there. Hmmm.

Needs more league tbh

Marshall masterclass, particularly the try at about 2:20 onwards, great rugby league

Marshall is good, but Cooper is better. I wish there was footage of the try he almost set up in the game on Saturday. He kicked to his teammate in their own try zone.

This will have to do. Best game of Super Rugby I have seen, even though the Reds lost.

Question about EPL; does it not disconcert you that 3 teams have dominated the competition for the past 20 years?

1. Footy
2. MMA
3. Tennis
4. Rugby League
5. Basketball
6. Cricket

I'd probably watch NBA over most but basketball in general I'm not as big on. Aussie rules is far and away my favourite sport.

Following EPL is a bit different to AFL as each team has something to aim for, be it avoiding relegation, moving up a division, winning the cup title, winning the Champions League, Carling Cup etc. etc.

It is a bit more of picking a team and experiencing the highs and lows of that team. Well it is for me anyway.

Alas, imagine being a minnow for most of your life and taking it all the way. I'm sure Blackburn fans in general felt many times more jubilant than many Manu fans reaction to 'another title'.
