Is Gary Rohan the worst finals player of all time?

According to your logic perhaps it's Robbie Flower because he only played one or maybe Bob Skilton because he didn't play any....lol!
Flower played 3 bro

Everyone just remembers Jack Darling´s dropped mark in that final minute...... even though in didn't matter in the end.

But imagine if it did... It would of been the greatest blunder of all time... besides Gary Rohan taking critical set shots from 2m out or running into open goals and missing with free players everywhere... guy seems drunk when he plays.
Atrocious in the firat half of that game, excellent in the second half...except for that shocker. Fortunately, it didn't cost them or it could rate as an all-timer.

Darling’s kicked 34.12 in 17 finals. Pretty much his career average and was instrumental in us winning in the ‘18 gf.
Darling has the rep for his shocker in 15, particularly that drop mark. He also played like an ass for the first half of 2018 and wasn't much better in Q4, but ****en hell that third quarter was something else. Probably the best GF quarter from A KPF since Hawkins 2011. From memory Boyd's gun GF in 2016 was more evenly distributed across the game, but happy to be corrected there. Regardless, it was some quarter from Darling and thank **** that dropped mark at the death didn't lead to any more mental scars. He's got enough of those, despite some great highlights and a very good career to boot.

In regular finals his performances have been fine. Not dominant but nothing short of his normal production that we get from him. Not even close to belonging in this thread.

Darling can just have some nightmarish moments in key situations. But he does that during the h&a season too. However his overall package more than off sets these moments

Glad he isn't a defender because he would be the kind to be best on ground yet have you heart in you mouth everytime the ball goes near him in a late close game

We've 100% come out well in front from the time we read his name out in the mid 20's back in 2010. But you're not wrong. He's a bit of a head**** to support, not going to lie. Those brain fades happen in finals and H&A. Maybe if you sat down and went through it all, you'd find it came with a bit more regularity in finals, but it wouldn't be close to the point that he belongs in this thread. He's had plenty of good finals performances as well.

Outside of the scope of this thread, but in terms of his career it's probably fair to say he is going to leave a little bit on the table when his career is done and dusted, even if it's still been a very good one. Perhaps not all his fault as just as his career was looking like it was going to go the next level in 2018, he copped an ankle injury and he hasn't really been the same since. The thing is, he was just as good a player at 19/20 as he was at 24/25 and that does make supporters wonder if hasn't quite hit the trajectory he could have. In saying that, it was widely predicted when he was first drafted - ready to go from day one but not a whole lot of improvement left him in and that proved to be bang on.

It isn't as much "finals" as it is his team was winning. Massive downhill skier that beats up on crap teams.

I was actually wondering this last night, whether or not he could be considered a down hill skier. I can definitely see the logic, but is it that Rohan plays well when the Cats are playing well (down hill skier); or that the Cats play well when Rohan plays well (barometer, I suppose)?

He's often the spark that gets us going, so I'm not sure that really fits the definition of down hill skier.

Would love to know his stats in wins v losses.

A similar argument has been made about Tippa the last few years. Ironically there have been a number of games where his goals have been the difference in winning the game, yet people use it as more evidence of him only playing well when we are winning!

Thought Rohan was very good last night. Not many can take a handball in the goal square and kick a goal from the goal line.

Or run from the centre square, carry the ball 20m, dish off to someone 40 out from goal and run on to be at the end of the chain.

****en hell you’re actually going to use THAT as the point of criticism? You could pick a million other moments and then chose THAT

defend him all you like as a Geelong fan

the reality is he’s very mediocre
