AFLW 2024 - Round 9 - Indigenous Round - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Victorians say the darndest things.
And you call yourself a Hawks fan. Remember 1996?The league needs to reduce the amount of sides to 14
The league is saturated, quality is poor
Each club would play more games, thus, honouring current contracts

Oh yeah I can see all those League fans in Sydney just sitting around waiting to buy Fitzroy memberships and watch them play on the weekends. Sure. This is an incredible thread. If the AFL wants to restore the goodwill of the supporters that actually allow the game to function this would seem like a logical step.
And it would even be good for expanding. The AFL would be known as the code that cares about the fans. It would be especially good at attracting NRL followers sick of RL post Sewer League.
It's a big shame what happened to Fitzroy. A merger with the Bears was probably the worst result. Relocation like the Swans I'm sure would've been much more preferable in hindsight. Maybe to Tassie. Or shipped up to Brisbane before the AFL even created the Bears. If not even to WA, the Fremantle Lions, or SA.

I would rather have South Melbourne back.
Is there a suburb of Perth, Darwin, Hobart, Brissy (or nth qld somewhere?) or Sydney called Fitzroy? If so, yes, Fitrzoy reds.
But not in Melbourne..
What happened to the Reds at the end of 2008? Players, jumpers, home-ground, theme song, supporters?THE Fitzroy Football Club, one of eight founding clubs of the VFL, played in the VFL-AFL for one hundred years and who now play in the VAFA are not the "Fitzroy Reds". The "University Reds" who changed their name to the "Fitzroy Reds" went out of existence at the end of 2008.
