I think Leppa can coach, but he took the hardest job in footy when the reality is we should have got a senior coach on board. I appreciate Leppa building our list and retaining important players. In a few years from now when we're in the 8 we'll be looking back on how Leppa hit reset on the lisy bringing in amazing talents to the club.

Yep, like we were able to look back on Wallsy's time at the Bears..

"There's no excuses as far as personnel goes," Leppitsch said.

"That's just the facts. The beauty is we're only going to go up from here."

^^ Leppa in March this year. The irony is excuses is all we've been making all year.

Injuries and retirements did hurt.

Did anyone else notice Leppa admitting he would of sold Brisbane's future just to try and get himself another contract despite it not being best for the club?

I didn't read it that way. If he was given a performance target that need to be actioned immediately, he could've gone in a different direction for rebuild and got us mid table. He would've had a balance in how he approached list management. He could have hired a Suckling, Whitecross or even Jesse White, let Schache, Keays and Hipwood to play 2s this year, developing them for future.

You can't give the guy a target of "blood all youngsters we got your back" and turn around to say "you didn't win enough so we're gonna turf your arse". It is correct for him to feel deceived and you can see why.

I find it a little disturbing that we backed off on Suckling, he is only still 28.
Linking running defender, sounds like someone we could of used , considering Hanley seemed to of been earmarked for midfield and Doc and Yeo skipped off.
So Suckling wasn't part of the long term plan.
Maybe not part of our next team to be top 4 premiership contenders but surely part of that PROCESS.
We had also Adcock leaving , so more experience down back gone.
Who is running this club to make decisions like this.

There seems to of been a few contradictions from Leppa and company when they say we want experienced players to come to Brisbane but we can't get them over so we have to go the draft, and then we learn we backed off a player that was always going to add to stability in out team.
Hmm there's that word stability.
Was Leppa the main overseer here or should more heads role.

Could anyone on here tell me if we would of gone hard on Suckling would it of compromised our draft picks or was he a free agent which is how I remember it.

I'll take that road any day , what we have done is potentially created damaged goods.
edit : not just the young players but also our seniors.

In the right age bracket, which is mid-twenties. Beams (26), Bell (25), Christenson (25), Robinson (27) Bastinac (26), Walker (23). Suckling is 28.

Free Agent, although it was thought that recruiting him as a FA would off-set the compensatory draft pick we would have received for Matthew Leuenberger.

I think he should stay at least another year, its clear he was given a directive to rebuild the club with fresh talent instead of topping up with proven older players, this comes at a cost, we all know that the clubs age profile has bottomed out this year which was part of the course. To shaft the bloke now after doing the hard yards and with the board having told him 'they have his back' would be an act of treachery.

Thanks for that,
Suckling at 28 would of still filled a hole while younger players earn there time to come in, I just think he would of added to our ability to transition from back to middle or forward .

We're just assuming that those players we were after were 'all in' for the Lions and we told them no?
Yeh who knows if we were really in the picture , but Leppa said that we backed off, so that's what I'm seeing, doesn't sound like we went that hard.

Its clear the club is going to have another difficult year next year, putting an accomplished coach in will not change this just look at Eade. Let Leppa carry the can for another 12 months and continue blooding new players, this will set the club up for an improved 2018 season with an experienced coach ready to take the club to the next level.

Very much agree with the sentiment here but the concerns lay in the fact that, to me, there hasn't been much of an improvement between Round 1 to 23 in our major weaknesses like our defence, turnovers and defensive midfield running. Over and over it has been said "we need to fix this" yet we are no better.

The other question is, assuming we had another year on field like this one, how bad of a position would the club be in both financially and in terms of membership, attendance and general relevancy with the QLD public? We are already a laughing stock.

Not changing the coach implies that the performances we put out this year were acceptable when they clearly aren't.

He won't, but I hope he stays. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and let next season play out. He is right about where our squad is at.

Bring in Beams, Christensen, Paparone, Close etc. for full seasons and watch the standards rise as competition for spots heats up.

We are yet to see Rockliff, Hanley, Beams, Rich, Zorko, Christensen and Martin all play consistently together. Even Rocky only played 17 games this year.

I think it's very poor if leppa is right and the goal posts have moved for him to keep his job this year.

Are you saying that today, at the board meeting, there are leaks coming out??

If that is true, then the board needs, no, must be disbanded, sacked, clear their desks, whatever it is called....but out the door!!

Seriously, there lies the problem right there if that is happening now.....of all days!!

is it normal to have a secret ballot? and who would be leaking it while in a board meeting?

Secret ballot? Suggests there is a split and they are unable to come to a unanimous decision.

Absolute joke. You are either united for or united against. If I was Leppa, I'd tell 'em to shove the job and walk off with my head high.

But then he won't get his payout
