I think a bball league for sub 6 footers would be sweet. I've known some super agile asian cats in my time who would be pro ballers if not for being short people.
Should have played netball. But they are discriminated against because they are not women.
This is just more persecution complex.
Keep the AFLW but have them play in lingerie. Boom, everyone's happy, ratings quadruple.
It's 2019, and people have varying tastes. "Strong is the new skinny", the fat acceptance movement, etc. AFLW has something for everyone!I'm not sure you've thought this through.
Some of those girls would hold a mallee bull out to piss.
That doesn't make it right. It's 2019, and people have varying tastes. "Strong is the new skinny", the fat acceptance movement, etc. AFLW has something for everyone!
A handicap system could be introduced where possible, similar to the weight-for-age scale in horse racing.
You could have the women starting off 9 or 10m in the 100m sprint. Would make sport more interesting.
It just seems a bit contrived doesn't it? I'm not sure what's wrong with the way it is now.
This response by Ronda Rousey to feminist rhetoric is priceless. Breaking down economic concepts in a way that the great unwashed can understand.I don't think women's sport is outdated as a concept. Having an AFLW isn't a slap in the face to equality, and I'm more than happy for the AFL (not the "men's AFL", it's not called that) to be open to players of all sexes and genders. AFAIK there isn't a specific rule precluding women from registering for the AFL draft because it will never happen. The best player in the AFLW wouldn't get a kick playing TAC Cup or WAFL Colts.
What is outdated and out of step with equality is women's professional sport being compared to and piggybacking off men's sport. AFLW players don't "deserve" to make a living out of the game any more than the men do, except that the men draw in excess of 7 million people through the gates each season and the TV rights deal is worth hundreds of millions per year. Want to make a living playing VFL or WAFL? Forget it.

The only reason women and men are separated in any sport is the patriarchy . Everyone knows men and women are equal and that if women weren't artificially held away from running they would beat Usain Bolt . Once society realises the truth then we will have equal 50% women in all professional male sports!!!Boxing isn't the only sport with weight divisions. Wrestling, judo, and some other martial arts have separate comps by weight. It's implicit that the bigger competitors would beat the smaller ones.
Most other sports are split by male/female. The obvious reason for this is that males are more physically capable. Feminists somehow manage to compartmentalise their equality agenda when looking at this issue to support that there should be different sporting categories for males and females. For example, the best female tennis player earns many millions of dollars a year but is not in the top 300 tennis players if you include both male and female. Is it discriminatory against men?
At a local level you see boys teams struggling for resources for many years then a club puts its hand up for the girls and hey presto the local politicians fall over themselves to throw in cash.

God damn I read some great repartee about this on LinkedIn. Feminist posts an article about the 90% pay gap in women's sport (specifically women's soccer), guy posts stats in differences on TV revenue, spectators etc, suggests pay is related to this. Feminist (who considers herself an academic mind you)
"Ask the female athletes about the pay gap. Try being a professional female athlete. Check your privilege please."
Feminist owned him, yep.
Apparently netball Australia is 4m in debt.
Is there any women's sports that doesn't lose a bunch of money every year?
Wafl.
WNBA.
Netball.
Etc. All seem like money holes.
Women's fighting perhaps. Tennis post Kournikova too

Difference is with combat sports more than any other is you get paid for what you bring in. Big gates, ppv sales etc earn you more. Rousey earned a truckload. Combat sport is the most equitably paid sport in the world. Shields v Marshall last weekend was the most watched boxing event on sky sports the last decade (in the UK).Women fight alongside the men at UFC events so it's hard to tell if it loses money. I wonder if any other sports have had a chat to the UFC about how they market the women fighters? They seem to have done it way better than nearly any other sport I can think of, it's newer for the UFC than sports leagues like the WNBA as well.
