Was keeping a close eye on young shields yesterday and to me it seems we have another younger alittle more desperate version of Tim Clarke. He struggled to kick the footy with any penetration and struggle to make the distance from 30m out.

I know its WAY to early to say it, as the kid has only played 2 games but can anyone eles see any resembelance?

Yes, we can't even spell his name right, so let's delist him before it's too late.

Stupid thread

.

He made a mistake on his name get over it .. other than that .. what we saw yesterday was what he described. He is hard at it .. but his kicking lacked polish. They were too low and not enough penetration.. I don't know if this can be rectified.. perhaps as he gets older and more mature his leg strength will become better equipped for league footy. Already a good size for a kid.

Tim Clarke, member of leadership group, well respected, gave his all, but ultimately didnt make it and was delisted

Nice way to label a young bloke in his first season

I can see what you are saying, but the kid has more game than Timmy.

His strength and technique need some work, but Tim Clarke was kicking like that 5 years into the system, Liam has only had 5 months.

I did think of the comparison after that shot at goal, but I think it's early doors, as many have pointed out.

I remember seeing similar things in Ellis' first few games though, and he's arguably superstar material if he could just get a good run with injury, and develop a larger sense of self preservation.

Lol.. the OP got crucified for this thread.

I guess the similarity is there, but he's only played 2 games, and turned 18!

Taken at pick 32, bottom aged. Can only guess where he would have been taken in this year's draft, but an educated estimation would see him drafted earlier.

**** your a bunch of tosspots who can take another hawthorn members personal opinion, this is a forum for freedom of speech, It's my early thoughts. I didn't ask for him to be delisted, nor did i say he was shit.

All i said was is there any kind of resembelance in his game. ****ing grow up you over protecting nerds.

Not a great start to your BigFooty/Hawks career.

That shot on goal that didn't make the distance was an aberration, mainly due to the wet ball, but perhaps also to do with nerves at taking his first shot on goal plus tiredeness after having won the ball in the first place.

He seems like a clever and courageous player. Hope he develops the running engine that Tim Clarke had.

Given that he is one of the few schoolboys running around in the AFL, I'm very pleased with what I've seen so far.

Freedom of speech. It's not America idiot. Australia does not have a Bill of Rights.
Even if we did have Freedom of Speech. This is not the forum for it. It is a forum for football.

Also, it's you're (not your), and it should read "cannot take another..." (not can).

As for being tosspots, well I guess you're right there.;)

A bit harsh going comparing him to Timmy. I saw Shiels at Springvale. His kicking into the wind was poor and not AFL class.

He has a fair way to go in respect of his kicking. Shame, because I like the rest of his game.

This thread is kinda like having a crash or getting your first speeding fine..

And seriously, as if anyone is concerned with Sheils atm.

I thought the kid did pretty well actually. Has endeavour to get in there and get the ball and kicks it well for an 18 year old.

More than happy to see Clarko giving the kids a go. It WILL work in the long run and both Shielsy and Shoey are learning more from footy in the big league than they will Box Hill, so if there are spots in the team, then why not include them?

Let's not put any further pressure on them by drawing comparisons with former players. Successful clubs with a good football culture don't do that kind of thing.
