Is Sydney for real?

They have demolished Brisbane, Adelaide and Richmond in the first 3 rounds. They will be a finals bound side this year and possibly top 4 of they keep this up.

Yes in my opinion. Their 3 wins have been against the wooden spooners at home but 2 of last year’s Preliminary Finalists away from home as well including the Premiers that have not been defeated by a non-Victorian side in Melbourne since 2017.

The wins were very emphatic as well if you really look at it. They have been 50 or more points up against all of their opponents in the 4th quarter so far. Teams just cannot keep up with them offensively when it matters

The draw has flattered us.
You've just smashed the reigning preimier playing interstate. Give your side some credit.

Nah the Tigers were stiff - Prestia injured and a Dusty tatt became a moving picture and moved off.

Besides we lost the 4thQ. Damn unforgivable.

Seriously there is nothing special about my mob. Our best players are the kids who just play with joy.

Will be hard for a young swans team to maintain this footy

Agreed. I think there will be a significant drop in performance around mid-way through the year. As good as the young guys are most first and second year recruits can't run out an entire season as their bodies are not yet developed enough to cope with the punishment.

May need to periodically rest some players up, give Campbell a fortnight off, then gulden , mcdonald etc

Impressive win today over Richmond. Winners all over the ground and not the usual seasoned suspects. Could be challenging for a flag as early as next year or 2023

I expected we would make decent progress this season, and ruffle a few feathers - but felt the real progress would be in '22 and '23.

But we have hit the jackpot in terms of already heading with our gameplan over the last couple of seasons towards a more 'skillful' approach compared to previous swans teams (who made up for deficiencies through grit and determination) - the recruting has focused for several years on trying to get the right players with genuine quality skills, especially in terms of field kicking. Combine that with Cygnets coming in this year that look like they've played 100 games already (such as Warner, Campbell, Gulden, even McDonald is doing might fine), and rule changes clearly pushing the game in the right direction, and its been a perfect storm for the start of the season.

Still expect we will hit a wall at times this season, and probably have some disappointing losses at times. Getting anywhere near top 8 was my hope for the start of the season, but if we can get to say 5-2 or 6-1 after 7 rounds (eminently achievable) then finals must be the minimum.

Whatever happens, I'm just going to enjoy the ride - this is 'anti-swans' football (in terms of how we've gone about our footy for 2 decades almost now) in so many ways - its a flashback to the late 80s. But watching the joy of the boys discovering just how good they might be able to be is going to be something else.

2021 I think will still be too early for a serious challenge, but I have no doubt that, given a few gaps are filled in the next couple of seasons, and natural improvement in the bunch of youngsters in the squad with obvious bags of talents, challenging for the flag should be the target sooner rather than later.

The young players (Blakey aside) all look physically equipped to play at a consistently high level.

As far as form against the barometers of last year, Sydney is right up there.
They've beaten Brisbane (4th overall in 2020).
They've beaten Adelaide who only a week prior had beaten Geelong (runner-up in 2020).
They've beaten Tigers (reigning premiers).

The results would suggest...this isn't a fluke occurrence.
However, maintaining this form for an entire season is the bigger challenge. Looks a likely top 4 at this rate though.

Swans looked good today but funnily enough the Tigers didn’t really give them a tough hit out. Early momentum can snowball with young sides and it would not surprise me to see the swans go top 6. It’s a long season for young bodies though so that’s the challenge.

Too good for us today, that's for sure. Adapted to the conditions far quicker and for far longer. That said, they wouldn't want to get too far ahead of themselves - if that game was played five times Richmond probably win four of them.

They're not flag threats but they're definitely finals bound at this rate, only took two years to turn their team around. Their young talent is some of the best in the league right now.

No, they'll slow down. They'd need a handful of first & second year players to have borderline All Australian type years to finish top 4 which isn't sustainable. They may & should bank enough wins early on to play finals however.

I suspect we are too young to be a real premiership threat. Eventually the younger guys will hit the wall this season, but what is happening at the moment is still super promising.

Disagree. Enough hardened bodies in there to share the load. We aren't a team of kids, we have a good blend. Heeney, Parker, Kennedy are bulls who can help Gulden, Warner, etc.
