Can't wait for Dusty to line up in red and white next year.

My sauce says we have an 11 year deal lined up. Emphasis on the lines.

We are a pretty young team though. I mean we have 4 guys under 20, and a couple more who are 21.

But I wouldn't say we are being carried by them. Our spread of goalkickers is evidence of that.

Guys like Florent, Heeney, Mills, Hewett, and Papley are hardly kids, and they've all had stellar starts to the season.

yeah but if all the young guys bodies are 5% less effective at the end of the season compared to “hardened bodies”, then that is 8 of your 22 that is not at 100%. The older guys don’t get 5% better.

Reckon that's grasping a bit and looking for reasons not to be bullish. Why not just embrace it? A 5% less effective Gulden is still bloody good.

I just think it’s still a great year if they run out of steam towards the end of the year. It’s reasonable to expect younger bodies to not hold up as well.

would love to be proven wrong.

maybe the apparently magical academy has given them special peptides so it doesn’t happen

The strength is also the question mark maybe? If you're belting teams now based on 1st and 2nd year players having a huge contribution, they might not be able to do this over the 25 games needed to win a flag.

Will definitely be playing finals though, that much is assured from today I think

Not sure about the age profile of the list being a problem. Especially these days when Aussie Rules is not a particularly gruelling contact sport. It's more aerobic sport than contact.

Richmond were a young side when they won in 2017. Not one player over 30.

Bulldogs young side. We're able to go on the road and win away. I'm not sure an old team would handle the travel.

Not sure the young bodies have enough juice in the tank to go through the full year playing at this speed.

Feel a lot of teams are going to hit a wall mid season with the speed of the game.

Sydney have a very bright future though. Should at least make finals this year and contend in 2-3.

Who knows how far they can go. They still have some experiences guys around as well.

As I mentioned in another thread, more work will be put into them by opponents going forward.

In saying that, it’s hard to see them not playing finals.

I see them at around the level of Port Adelaide a few years back when all of Rozee, Duursma and Butters were first year players. Basically with a blend of experience and talented youth they'll do very well for blocks of games but may find it harder as the season goes on and will likely hit some significant flat spots. Expect them to play finals, maybe a finals win but no further than that.

Swans have been trajecting up since the middle of last season. The kids can all play, the question that needed an answer was whether they could win.

To add to the assessment, people are ignoring our injury list, which is the shortest it has been I n years and nothing like last year when we had about 10 of our starting 22 out.

We do have some handy depth players we can bring in to have a shot, like this Franklin kid, not to mention Rowbottom, Stephens and maybe Ling. But being able to play your best 22 is a luxury not many clubs get to enjoy.

Once the injuries start to hit, the performance will drop a bit. Should still play a couple of finals games I hope.

I think right now what is helping is how many options Sydney have in the forward line. Players like McDonald, Heeney, Gulden, Papley, Wicks and even Hickey are all legitimate targets who can all kick several goals a game and so far that seems to help as oppositions don't really know who to focus on when the ball is moving fast into the Swans forward line.

We're playing bloody well and will continue to improve. We'll play finals, might make the top 4 but I expect us to run out of steam eventually.

We're almost completely fit. A few injuries and our 22 will drop in talent dramatically.

We'll get found out. We're just working out plan A, haven't started on plan B yet. Clubs will stop our attack soon enough.

Pretty much sums up my expectations

I thought this thread was going to be about whether the Swans were just foxing last year.

If so, brilliant work. They fooled me. I thought they were trash. And in a world of pain for years to come.

I was wrong.
