Is the curse of Mick Malthouse likely to destroy Collingwood

We politely replaced a coach who could only (barely) win 1 flag out of 5 attempts after 11 years of trying with unlimited resources at his disposal and total control of the club.

He's pretty lucky he lasted THAT long given no other coach in history has been given that much time to win a flag, let alone given that much time with the budget and freedom Mick had.

In the time it took Mick to win 1 flag, wanna hazard a guess how many coaches were turned over in that time at other clubs thanks to no success?

While its unfortunate Leigh Matthews had to be sacked, Im sure Tony Shaw will do an excellent job as the coach of Collingwood.

Matthew sacked 1995 replaced by favourite son Shaw - 15 years later Collingwood wins something and Matthews moves onto Brisbane.

Malthouse "moved on" - replaced by favourite son, FIGJAM.

Jewell sacked - replaced by favourite son Burke, later reappointed but damage done.

Smith sacked replaced by favourite son Beckwith - gets the spoon.

Sheedy "moved on" - replaced by Knights now moving to a favourite son.

Williams "moved on" - replaced by favourite son Primus.

Karma - it's a b***h.

This is all very convincing, but what did the St Kilda football club do way back in the 19th century before we even had a coach?

As our friend Jigadog pointed out, a lot of the early teams struggled in the early years of their existence. It is the subject of some mirth but not as much mirth as not having won a premiership ffor over 50 years and not winning a prelim in that time.

Jeans goes from St Kilda, they win SFA.

The funny thing about the Babe ruth trade was the owner did it in part to finance a musical. That is only bettered by Collingwood who got rid of MM only to ensure that Bucks did not go elsewhere.

History says that if you treat your premiership coaches badly, karma bites you in the ar-e bigtime. Think Essendon, turfed the old man out and now stuck with trying to make good with a favourite son for whom the job is beyond him and a liar. Port castrate their premiership coach and end up being Gold coast's b-tches.

But what truly is better for non collingwood people, collingwood not making the finals continually or continually making the GF and being beaten.

What fun it will be watching the succession plan fail and MM in the background not even trying to restrain the belly laugh.

So basically you still mad that we signed Bucks before Norf could, so then your s**tstain of a club had to settle for Chris Scotts brother :thumbsu:

Actually from a NM point of view, I was relatively glad Buckley signed with Collingwood. Overpriced, with few team achievements and very little experience as a coach, NM might have dodged a bullet. Moreover, if he was any good NM would be training him so he could leave for another club - much as he did to such fantastic success as a player.

As for Chris Scott he is coming along nicely and if successful is likely to stay for some years at NM.

I was merely commenting on Collingwood's motivation for signing Buckley- they did not want to be seen to beaten by NM - although I suspect Buckley was playing NM against Collingwood to get the best deal at Collingwood rather than having any real interest in NM. Buckley's in everything for number 1.

So in a nutshell- you are welcome to him- but Collingwood would have been much more feared if Malthouse did not leave and Buckley did.

A statement, and a question:
1. Every coach is likely to stay for some years if successful.
2. Is there anybody, right down to the boot-studder, whom North Melbourne wouldn't consider overpriced?;)

bucks wont be anywhere near malthouse. He will imitate but will fall short. Also the too much pressure on him to perform.

Pressure, what pressure???

He has over ten years to deliver one flag.

hahahah, that's just on the spot defense for the man. U know it as well as i do, to collingwood supporters, Bucks has to win this yr, to eddie Bucks has to reach GF at the very least.

Wrong.Bucks was always seen as a Collingwood coach in waiting, similarly to Hirdy.

Bucks would have stayed 3 years maximum regardless of the results and then pissed off to whoever was going to the pay him the most money, which in all likelihood would have been Eddie. Bucks never has had loyalty except to himself which is why the Brisbane threepeaters took that much joy in pawning him.

As to cost, from all reports, FIGJAM wanted megabucks - his overinflated sense of ego and the knowledge that eddie would try to outbid any team rather than see his "punk" leave eddie's bed meant that for an untested coach, FIGJAM wanted black caviar money for being an untested coach.

Other NM supporters may have wanted, I'm glad Collingwood got him.

Karma will bite Collingwood big time.

The experiment which is Brad Scott has already bitten like the Dean Laidley experiment:eek:
James(I'm Eddie's lap dog)Brayshaw wanted Buck's and if it had happened you would be singing his praises.......you ****ing hypocrite:rolleyes:

The 'curse of the bambino' has often reminded me of the Colliwobbles. Whats funny is that Frazee barely used Ruth as a hitter. Meanwhile when he went to the Yankees, he ended up with the second-highest amount of RBIs in history. Perfect irony.

I hate Bahston. arseh*le of a team.

I suspect Collingwood will have more success than the Red Sox though.

I only wish the 'curse of the bambino' upon Footscray and Melbourne. Most of their supporters probably look like Babe Ruth.

So let me get this straight, you rate Buckley that highly that only a flag will be a passmark this year as opposed to the greatest current coach who was afforded a luxury of having over a decade to achieve that???????

I've never liked Buckley from the time he p-ssed off from Brisbane and more than happy NM picked up Scott.

Go back to that shit hole in The Bronx and see A-Rod take his daily steroids.

Oh yeah, I can't let a Red Sox troll go down without reliving this classic moment.

For those not into MLB, this classic moment in baseball history was akin to Nick Riewoldt's uncoordinated attempt in front of goal in the 2010 GF replay :thumbsu:
