It’s definitely an advantage. I’ve also seen Victorian teams lose on GF day to non Victorian teams and Victorian teams win finals interstate. I do think it’s pretty unfair having it solely in Victoria, I mean it’s a national sport. At a minimum it should be played at another venue every other year, particularly if non Victorian teams are involved.

Ill bang on about this as much as i want - you can call if what you want.

People who accept the status quo will never change anything in this life.

Ill keep banging on, maintain the rage and at some stage there will be enough of these mcg teams beating higher ranked non mcg teams that enough anger will come that something will have to be done.

All it takes is for a shed load of the wa, sa, nsw, qld folk to sign a petition saying they will boycott watching the gf if their team isnt playing

And actually do it - and all of a sudden the dynamic will change - advertisers, sponsors etc will go nuts and the optics of it will be unendurable.
You're hilarious aren't you kid

Rubbish, Richmond came good at the right time of year, they were brilliant in September. They were ordinary in Adelaide back in round 6 or whatever it was, but flags aren't won in April.
I sort of Agree with richmond.

2017: Richmond struggled in the 1st half of the season, even losing to freo at the MCG. Struggled with injuries too... 2nd half they got key players back and were in good form in the right time.

2019: was 7-6 after 13 games. Had players injured. After the bye they won every single game in the regualr season. Yeah they had 6-7 games at the mcg in a row before the finals. The Advantage was there and they took it. They made full use of it. No different to a West coast side being 14-5 with 3 rounds to go and those last 3 games are all in Perth with that 3rd game vs Freo in an "Away" derby. And then the eagles win all 3 perth games to post top 2 with a 17-5 record.

2020: Richmond had 1 win, 1 draw and 2 losses in the 1st 4 games. lost only 3 games between rounds 5-18. so 10 wins and 3 losses in the last 13 games. They lose to Brisbane in the Gabba, Beat the saints, beat the Power in Adelaide and won the grand final vs the cats in the Gabba.

I’m obviously biased but the first quarter/half of the 2017 Grand Final wasn’t great either.

While I’m on Crows games at the MCG, the 2012 prelim against the Hawks was as bad as I have ever witnessed.
As much as I respect crows fans... Thats the last thing you should complain about. You beat an Injury riddled dockers side in the semi final.

Does
not
matter
what
you
do
in
home
and
away.

September is when you need to perform at your best.

Look at 1991, we comfortably lost to the Eagles in Perth and Melbourne in H&A.
But we were at our best in September comfortably beating them in both Perth and Melbourne.
And this old chest nut.....

Well your post is already dead in the water. Crazy that Eagles were top in 1991. 19 wins and 3 losses. all 3 close losses by a combined total of 16 points. Lost to Hawks in Perth by 13 points in the QF. Eagles had to face 4th placed demons in waverly park, when it should be in WA. Eagles then beat cats in the prelim final and lost to your mob in Waverley

It sort of does matter what you do in home and away. Need enough wins to make finals.

But posting about the same thing 172 times isn’t going to illustrate a trend, but a one off example.
To be honest. Its like the Gloria Estefan song, cuts Both ways.

Some people crack the poo when Geelong Hosted the tigers in the MCG in that 2017 QF when it should of been in Geelong. Some people complain about the Tigers grand final win over the crows in 2017 because of the Tigers home ground Advantage.

So how come no one complains about Richmond Struggling from 1983-2012 when they only made finals twice (in 1995 and 2001) in that whole 1983-2012 period?

Kid you're still crying? Dude face it, it's kinda getting pretty sad how insecure you are
Again... it cuts both ways....

Some people complain about Richmonds 3 flags in 2017, 2019 and 2020.

Yet no one complains about Richmond struggling from 1983-2012 when they only made finals in 1995 and 2001.

Richmond since 1994, which was the 1st year of the final 8 system until 2010 which was the final year of 8 finals spots for 16 sides, finished 9th in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2006 and 2008.

Yeah I know Success from 2013 onwards have softened the blow with those 3 elim finals from 2013-5 and those 3 flags from 2017-20. But in a Way you wished all those 9th placed spots from 1994-2008 were 8th placed spots. Thats 6 more finals richmond could of played. Richmond would of played finals in 1994-6 and 2000-01. would of made Matty Richardsons career better.

At the time losing those elimination finals in 2013-15 hurt, but after winning three flags I can see the humour in them

I want this on Record... I did want richmond to win in that 2013 elim final, despite Troy Chaplin being one of the few players that won finals in a prevous club. Port in 2007 of all teams and all years.

2014, Meh. Looking back to 2014, I sort of wished we lost to Port in the final round and avoid going out in straght sets.

2015, Had mixed views on North winning. North fans in real life are not bad people. The ones here on bigfooty are violent and Feral! lol North sort of did us all a favour beating the swans in the semis, It was stupid with the constant booing at Adam goodes.

2013 hurt badly finally made finals after a decade of not making them only to lose to a team that wouldn't have been there in most years

2014 in the end I was just happy to make finals

2015 hurt mostly because it was the third final loss in a row

Geelong not an mcg team.

Cos richmond were shit during that period. Thats why.

because it was funny

If home ground was such an advantage Port should have made the GF last year and Brisbane the year before that.

You could have played todays game at Uluru and Geelong would still be victorious.

Geelong are just a better team than Sydney right now. But do you really think Richmond are beating Adelaide in the 2017 GF if it weren't for the MCG?

Why do non-Vic sides play so much worse in the GF than they do regular season games at the MCG?
depends on the situation.....

A non victorian side can make finals with 13 wins. So 8-10 wins at their home state and 2-4 wins away, possibly against a tenant or 2 at the MCG that finished bottom 6.

I agree. Melbourne every second year, Adelaide and Perth every 4 years until Brisbane has their new stadium and Sydney builds a new one. Won’t happen unfortunately though, not before 2059 and probably not after that either.

Yeah well you look at like….. every other sport around the world when it becomes a national sport…. That’s what you expect… a national sport….

Not a bunch of parochial dimwits trying to hang onto the sport while rat-funking it as a result.

You dont see england bloviating about how the world cup should always be held in england because its the “home of soccer.”

I'll explain again, it's the market that dictates the landscape of the AFL. The bulk of the market is in vic.

This is not like the NFL where the clubs are owned by private enterprises, our 'national' sport clubs are member owned. Therefore the custodian of the league will use whatever means necessary to gain as many $ as possible.

You talk about england, well the EPL doesn't have a salary cap, and then you talk about the inequities of the AFL - they're not even the same universe.

Soccer is an international sport, not a domestic league like ours. Clutching at straws to draw comparisons.

Market. Dictates. This is not a conspiracy against other states for the sake of vicco bias

This has been explained ad nauseum - and the WAFC should've and would've been aware at the time - unless WA can create more market (read - breed like proverbial plague rabbits) then true equity would never come to pass. That's not even mentioning geography.
