I wanted to but, guess what, I went for a North player. Lewis had a very nice game but watch this


The last kick from Malcolm Blight went a million miles in the air, but overall, the kick would have been around 55 metres. Players today can kick that far with a drop punt. The kick from Blight was nothing special.

When you kick the ball as often as Merrett does and take the risks he does, you'll turn it over on occasion. He's still an elite kick regardless.
 
I can remember a kick from maybe 20 years ago. Andrew Jarman gathered the ball in the centre, ran towards the left half-forward flank and speared a pass on his (non-preferred) left foot to a leading Modra. The kick must have travelled 50m and it went no more than around 4m above the ground. It was an absolute bullet.

Andrew is so underrated in hindsight compared to his brother. Every bit as good and as skillful as Darren.
