Plus you's made a GF from 3rd I think that's an amazing achievement even though you lost. Everyone who bangs on Lyon's inability to win GF's forgets that most of them were made from outside the top 2 and only once was his team the favourite to win (2009). So one could say that he can make his teams play good finals footy to at least make the GF. It's just he's come up against really great, higher finishing opposition.

It's just a bit of ribbing lol :) you'd have done the same in fact you guys were worse after 2005 than we are now!
there's ribbing and total ****wits..and often by people who have never been to a game! you know the 'hardcore devout' ones? ones who never even indicated they had a team before today. Those are the true w***ers - the ones who take satisfaction in another's grief.

Yep that's true... should just say bad luck/sucked in and get on with it. Hell I'm already focused on 2014 myself

Yeah that's why your avatar is what it is...

As Ross says

LET THE COBBLERS DO THE COBBLING

Now make me some shoes!

Sorry for the intrusion - this is exactly how I felt twelve months ago - I watched no tv, read no papers - nothing at all that related to the loss. I watched not a single game when fox was replaying the home and away season, cringed my way through ads that showed Sydney and the cup and to date have still not watched and never will a replay of that game.

I grew to loathe malceski and 'that' kick

I feel your pain and would like to say that right up till that final siren yesterday I was reliving that pain at every docker goal. If that is how we as supporters feel, imagine the players - watch how much harder they are and the resolve they have next season.

I have a whole new respect for saints supporters that have endured that THREE times

All the best for 2014

Would have to agree with you on that one. Man, that's gotta hurt. New found respect for the Saints and their supporters.

Wow - Dennis Commetti in the Worst partially blamed the umpires; never seen him write anything like that before. What does it take to get fair umpiring? Clearly not making a Grand Final.

Have just braved watching the McPh. and Rioli decisions again. Like I said in the earlier post and like Commetti said in the West this morning, the 50 against McPh was wrong. Franklin juggles the mark just outside the 50. A truly B.S. call by Rosebury. The Rioli HTB came after a dropped mark and the ball falls into Spurr's hands and he is tacled straight away. Sure he didn't really make sufficient effort to get rid of the ball but the whistle wasn't blown until after the ball even came out from under Spurr and still Meredith pings him. It was another stinker.

Earlier in the quarter Puopolo gets the ball has a second to dispose, doesn't and then gets tackled and hangs on to it for an eternity and f@cking Nicholls calls for a ball up.

Commetti is right in the first half "Fremantle were held to a higher standard than Hawthorn." Even talking to WAFL umpires I used to umpire with they all agreed completely about the different standard applied.

Walked into St Paul's cathedral, keen on doing a guided tour inside a 'Hawks fan' said that us Freo fans should hung and quarter the side, we played terrible, the Hawks didn't win it etc. I walked out. Way to cost yourself a customer who was quite happy to naively put in $10 to fund the lavish church lifestyle.

This was probably the worst aspect, one rule for Freo players and another for Hawthorn players.

That 50 was total bullshower i was %$#^ at the ump also.sorry to intrude.

Personally, it's nice to hear that even other clubs' supporters thought the umpiring was BS... I'm blaming the team's lack of composure, but thought the umpiring was a real momentum killer. And seriously, how the heck can a guy get a free kick and then get suspended for the same tackle? That's very average.

Freo needed either luck or composure on the day... got neither :(

What bugs me most is that there seems to be an air of expectation that we will back up next year and go that one step better. Opposition posters and many of us; my mates on facebook - all saying 2014 will be our year; lose one to win one; etc etc.

But there are no guarantees - sometimes it happens that it's just a one-off appearance. We had a golden opportunity and we didn't take it. My fear right now is "what if we don't make it back there in '14 to atone for this pain now?"

I'm almost more scared for 2014 than I am sad about yesterday...

Totally agree. Two ways it could go, I reckon:
- losing one they should've won could break the team
- Or knowing that, despite everything, they nearly beat this season's dominant side on their home turf, could give them that confidence that was so sadly missing on Saturday (and in the first quarter against Sydney).

Hoping for the second option, but it's very possible that this was a once-in-a-lifetime happening. It's a long season, and lots of things can go wrong.

Sigh...I'm struggling big time with this. I'm not angry or annoyed or whatever...I'm just blah. Can't bring myself to even turn on my foxtel because I believe it's still on fox footy...

Going to say this quietly- anyone think that we shouldnt have subbed off Clarke.

Agreed we needed Neale on, but I think Clarke would have stopped Lake from having such a big last quarter.

Disagree, that was probably the worst game Clarke has played all year and would have continued to be a liability had we not subbed him.

If you are a conspiracy theorist you would say that 5 goals from free kicks to the Hawks were gifts from Demetriou to force a Hawks Premiership so that Buddy could leave Hawthorn with no unfinished business ala Ablett at Geelong, on a high, and go to GWS.

I counted 3 free kicks and a 50. And the Gunston free was a mark anyway, so that makes it 2.

Or teams that have 21 on the ground at one time!

Just watching AFL 360. It's the first vision I've seen since the game and I'm getting a little emotional :(

Couldn't do it. Got up the courage to turn on the foxtel box...thank god it was on Nickelodeon. Anyway, cancelled the recording and decided to record some of the games from the start of the season.

Last chance next year for macca, Pav and Sandi :(
God I hope they snare a Key Forward

Still hurts... refuse to watch the highlights or the game ever again.

This feels like a really awful break up right now.

Feels pretty $hit I know, but at least history shows teams that play in a GF one year are a reasonable chance in playing the granny the following year.
The eggs in 91,92,crows 97,98,lions 01,02,03,04,the eggs & swans 05,06,cats,hawks,saints and pies
07-11....This data is softening the kick to the guts a bit for me.

Haha you quoted me twice and I was thinking I had said the same thing twice in like two days! (nothing would've changed anyway)

Yeah I'm trying to think of it that way too but I honestly can't. So worried that we might not get a chance next year.
