I've been watching the news today, and it already seems like it's all about our opponents. They are hot favourites to win, and it's easier to do stories from Geelong - where the whole town is blue and white - than it is to find a red, white and black enclave in Melbourne (stop trying to find it in Acland street, FFS!).

More importantly, the Geelong players seemed to be spending all of their time today talking about how they'll be remembered as a great side if they win the Granny this year, and how they feel like they have our measure after the round 14 game.

All of this makes me very happy. In 1997 it was all about us, and even the players bought into the hype. Naturally, winning our first premiership in such a long time was a big story then, and it's still a big story now, but everyone now expects the Cats to be crowned One of the Great Sides of All Time next Saturday, so our fairytale is taking a back seat this time around. Let's keep our heads down and hope that Little Gary wins Charlie tomorrow night. And, if you think that sounds like sacrilege, well it's premiership medals I want.

Thumping a side that was inexcuseably reluctant to pressure the ball carrier (hint - something St Kilda has been brilliant at this year) is hardly impressive.
They piled on goals late because they wanted to look good leading into the GF. They already believe they've won it, with all the talk in the media.
On our side, calm, quiet, "we've just won round 24" is the approach.
The Cats looked shaky, then Collingwood dropped their intensity, let their guard down, started thinking of bigger things.
The Cats will have their guard down thinking of a cakewalk (protip, they lost to us last time and it was only so close because a flurry of appauling umpring decisions) and they'll go to pieces if we make a fast break at the start.

Stupid thing to say.

Isn't that a good thing for you guys considering the heat is off?
However, the Supporters in here who think that we think it is going to be a cakewalk for us are pure facepalm value (Especially that LordJimmy). We didn't pressure them because we had the game well and truly won.
It's going to be an entirely different kettle of fish this weekend and don't think we are going to take things like we did in the second half last night when we pretty much had it in the bank.
Anyway, it's going to be a cracker. You guys are simply awesome and shouldn't be discounted. Oh, and ignore the rubbish about your win on Friday night, as you simply did what you needed to do.:thumbsu:

I'm happy for us to take underdog status and for all the attention to be on the Cats. I think we play better that way.

We went in favourites against the Dogs and I don't think it helped us. We stood back a bit and almost expected things to happen in that first half, while the Dogs really attacked the game. Hopefully the boots on the other foot come Saturday and we become the hunters and not the hunted.

Geelong are deservedly favourites and it's something that's probably a good thing for us. We'll perhaps go in as the sentimental favourites but I'm sure it won't be to the level that we experienced in 1997.

BTW, I plan on enjoying this week, I don't want to spend all my time on bigfooty deleting posts and issuing infractions like I've already had to do in this thread. :)

Guys, just because the media and some supporters are pumping us up as the favourites doesn't mean the players think so. Geelong have handled themselves well this finals series. They know what's ahead but I don't think they'll make the same mistake as last year in dropping their guard.

St. Kilda should definitely be favourites, I don't see why they shouldn't. 20-2, beat us in R14 and obviously have some friends in the yellow to help them out of a sticky situation.

Just ensure your own mob aren't bearhugging to draw a holding free and we'll be fine there chip. Setting up excuses already as to why you might fail with our "friends in yellow", pathetic.

I plan on enjoying this week

Good point !

All the best to all St Kilda supporters this week.

I for one am not enjoying myself on this board any more and will take a little (or longer) break.

Let's enjoy this week and let's make this our year !

Go Saints !!!

Can't you read mate? Or are you dyslexic? (oh sorry, Collingwood supporter) It was 73 points , not 37, in one of the softest displays by Collingwood in years.

He was probably just one of the majority of so called Pies fans who left early.

So when he left the margin was probably only 37 points ;)

What I like, though, is the media heaping pressure on them by asking them about the thought of becoming one of the great teams - vs - being just another one premiership club. That kind of stuff makes it difficult to keep the players focussed, I reckon. And they are obviously letting more players speak to the media than 07, so they're not in the bubble.

your kidding right? how many articles has there been on cry baby Riewoldt

Only slightly more than there has been about Matthew Stokes who didn't even play last week (and the Cats don't even need to play):

I didn't even know he was invited to the Brownlow, and I'm pretty sure white suits aren't permitted.
