Opinion I've lost my faith in Ken Hinkley

Absolutely.
and in the cold light of day, ive seen it first hand (having gone to many arsenal games in the last 3 years), a divided fan base does nothing for the players or coaches on field. We simply have to get behind the team for the remainder of the year and see what happens....

I'm really questioning what is the best end to this season.

Is it to make finals for the sake of making finals, only to bomb out dismally?

As much as it would hurt in the short term, I'm really hoping that we don't make finals. Only then would there seem to be a chance of the stakeholders saying enough is enough - we need a complete overhaul of our coaches.

Drastic, I know. But how much more mediocracy can we take? There is no simple change that can be made to take us from an average team to a contender.

Attendances are dropping week by week and we may yet again find ourselves in the 2012 territory.

You're interpreting events to fit a narrative that you want to push.

I'm not disputing that Ken had a game of golf with Hamish. It's not unusual or wrong for a coach to speak to a senior player in that manner.

What I'm disputing is that Essendon had offered a first round pick and that Ken told the club not to take it and that the club allowed him to make that call.
Assuming also that in this scenario, Essendon would have taken the full value of Hartlett's contract off our books? Or perhaps there is more complexity to the supposed deal than can be conveyed during the 'inner circle' meetings?
I like your stuff but Bomber the Essendon offer is a fact, and yes they would have taken his contract.

It's now long gone............it was a 1st rounder for a 26 year old who has a maximum of 2 years left to go at half back. I love Roger James but he was finished at 29............ Hamish is near the end alread. Monfires and white are also fried which is the tough part about professional football, running backs in the NFL are gone by 27 on average.

It's unlikely that we'll miss considering that our percentage effectively has us two games inside the 8.

Win 2/3 we're in.

Win 1/3 we're probably still in unless one of West Coast, Melbourne or St Kilda wins all three remaining games AND all of the 6-8 teams win at least two games themselves.

Melbourne have the best chance of going undefeated, they play St Kilda, Brisbane and Collingwood on their run home.

Is there no chance of Dew coming in as a head coach? I don't know how i'll cope if we ever were to have Voss as the main man

I would hope that no-one at the club who has the power to make the call would ever consider Voss as the main man, and I suspect it is more likely he is in line for the sayonara as soon as his contract is up.

It wouldn't surprise me greatly either, if he swaps positions with Chad Cornes for next season, but the best scenario would be that another club offers him a role, but I can't see that happening.

Y'all think Ken would be hurting? You forget that some things are bigger than football...

Yeah, Ken can go volunteer at Oxfam if that's what he wants. But as the paid head of onfield business at Port Adelaide he should be treating football like it's the most important thing in the world.

Essendon had picks #1 #22 and #31 in last year's draft.

Which first round pick exactly were they offering for Hartlett and his 5 year contract?

Yesterday represented a club crisis point the equal of GWS 2012 as far as I'm concerned.

Unfortunately change will not be as forthcoming this time. We will have to go deeper.

This Sunday I'll be watching the game at the pub wearing my Magpies beanie and feeling very conflicted about how I want things to unfold.

Feel for us that actually have to attend...

I'm not even sure that making a preliminary final would save Hinkley now. The supporters tend to vote with their feet, and the club will have to listen.

My concern is that it would be similar to Carlton sacking Ratten. Our list feels enormously overrated right now.

Speaking of Ratten, is he a more attractive proposition after spending a few years winning multiple premierships at Hawthorn?

Multi player deal...........missed opportunity

lol so now it's a multi-player deal involving other clubs and it all fell over because Ken played golf with Hamish but it's only known within inner circles.

What he did/didn't do at Carlton is enough for me to say no

Clarkson, Roos, Worsfold, Matthews, Blight... even Thompson

I think we need a short term, impact coach to bust some heads

Matthews would be as effective as Malthouse at Carlton.
Blight is a fruitloop whose methods in the modern day would be questionable.
Clarkson please. And he can bring Andrew Russell back with him thanks.

Ken is a Blight disciple that was by his side during the St Kilda disaster. I guess we may as well go the whole hog and bring the real deal in for a half a season of Skype coaching from the GC Golf Club. Koch would spin it well.
