Toast Izak Rankine off to Adelaide. Pick 5 obtained as expected

Not sure who's Dad spoke, but I know they had both the leadership group and the indigenous group (fronted by Jarrod Harbrow) speak.

Sounds like we're suddenly back in the running to keep Ranks and (crucially) it's for considerably less money than what the Crows are offering. I don't want to get too ahead of myself but if we do keep Rankine after everything that has transpired then that would be a MASSIVE boost for our club culture because we all know he's turned down a lot of money to stay with us.

This has happened before for anyone that's wondering. Aaron Francis was as good as gone when the Crows went after him but Essendon's playing group and coaches managed to convince him to stay and he's still at the Bombers to this day. So it can be done. There's no doubt about that.

For probably the first time with a player trying to leave that we want to stay, I totally get it.

Hard to begrudge a young guy for taking the deal of a lifetime.

Really hope he stays though
Yeah, but surely he'd feel he doesn't deserve that kind of money yet.

He should just back himself in for the next couple years and get a big deal at a club he loves by being the type of player worthy of said money. But kids don't always think that way. It can be a temptation hard to ignore. But at what cost?

Not sure it matters if he feels he 'deserves' it or not.

being offered that money before you've reached your prime or 'earned' that kind of deal is why it would be so hard to turn down. essentially guarantees he gets paid as much as any small forward in history before he's had to do the work for it.

I think it would be in his best interest to stay at the suns for at least 2 more years.

AFL tv deal will get bigger which usually means the salary cap will get bigger.

If Rankine stays and continues to improves his next contract will be bigger than Adelaide's current offer.

Why not? If he turns into elite player he will earn that kind of money eventually. Players take less money all the time including Suns players. King is the same age and if his contract is as speculated ($750) he potentially turned down a lot of money too.

How much would teams pay Miller? More than speculated $800K he is on.

Let's see if you will also not begrudge Anderson and Rowell if they decide to follow Rankine's path. Basically, any of our top young players could get more money somewhere else.

No wonder the reports about Rankine have slowed down this week. The entire SA media must have freaked out when they started hearing he was genuinely considering a backflip after many of them had reported that he was '90-100%' going to the Crows.

This is a good point and why I don't buy that it's about money. IMO he's under pressure from friends/family to move back home and help them out (which is perfectly fine if that's what he wants to do).

So the Crows offer is $800k x5, and the Suns is what $650k x 2? Or is it 4 years? I can't see the Suns refusing the longer term. It's not that much more money really (especially given the extra part will be at the higher tax rate).

And as someone pointed out earlier in the thread, he will have other sources of income, so the difference between Crows/Suns is even less in terms of his total income.

Fingers crossed he stays.

he should re-sign with us for 2 years.

we had a promising season this year. in two years if we're showing no clear progress towards finals, I wouldn't begrudge him if he wanted to take a deal back home. he'll be 24-25 and arguably in his prime.

obviously i'd love him to stay for the rest of his career, he's a bums on seats player, but it's his decision.

I just wonder if he had decided to go to Adelaide,
Wouldn't he wait to be assessed by their doctors before deciding to have major shoulder surgery rather than going under the knife now on the advice of Suns doctors?

Particularly as Dew mentioning it would probably move pretty quickly now the season is over.

I think hes gone but he still loves the club and the boys. That's all there is to it. Hope I'm wrong.
I think this is 100% correct, i also think Dew knows

I love Izak but losing him isn’t the end of the world. The group is tight, Rosas with likely thrive as the main small forward and $$$ saved

Plus at the very least a number 5/6 draft pick to get an elite young mid or defender on rookie contract for 2 years.

A forward line that consists of King, Chol, Ainsworth, Jeffries, Rosas, Lukosius, Hollands, Holman, Sexton, Flanders and Oea is still a hell of a lot of talent.

It’s not the end of the world. I really hope he stays, but he’s a cherry on top type of player. I think we make finals with or without Rankine next season.

Pick 5 those that could be available: Jhye Clark (Mid) Tsatas (outside mid, but after today's game, I can see him pushing for top 3) Busslinger (key defender)
