The roads are as bad as I have ever seen. Not sure anyone could possibly deny that at this point. My area (I don’t recall any floods in the eastern suburbs) has seen repairs on FTG road, and they last probably a fortnight before they are damaged again. There are potholes galore on FTG road around the Blackburn, Scoresby and FTG areas.
I'm convinced they do an average job on them so they can keep getting work to fix them. I doubt there is any accountability on making sure the fixes are actually long lasting

gee we're in the middle of a cost of living crisis where people can't afford food and medication and housing and you're telling me we are seeing an uptick in crime?

colour me shocked

good to see the response to that is more cops and not better living conditions for people

Certain posters will mimic Labor MP's and say the conditions of roads is due to flood damage that occurred in.... 2022. That may be the case. But why is it that roads in NSW & QLD, which both receive 4X the rainfall of Victoria didn't suffer the same damage, and why haven't the roads been repaired yet?
Um, they did in NSW

New data from the NRMA has revealed rising damage to vehicles across the state from potholes following increased wet weather with nearly 900 additional calls for help each month in April and May due to wheel and tyre damage alone.

NRMA Roadside has seen growing calls for help from motorists stranded due to wheel and tyre damage over the last two months following wet weather with more than 12,000 (12162) calling for roadside assistance in April and May.

Ok, but anyone who has driven on roads in both states will tell you Victorian roads are shit. The Victorian govt is using floods in 2022 as an excuse to do nothing

No one is pretending that Victorian roads don't have issues. What's folly is to pretend that we are the only state with road problems.
I conceded that is the case earlier.

Not all our road problems were caused by floods. Yes that is what you and the government will have us believe.

You need to go back and re read my posts. Not at all what I said.
Maybe you should have been clearer:

Roads
still work to be done to recover from the record floods in recent years”

I can name countless roads that weren’t flood affected but are in terrible condition.

I said reread, not selectively quote 🙄

They definitely need to increase funding though. With record number of cars, trucks and extra heavy EVs, roads will be hard to maintain for any government. Can't believe those Aholes took the vic government to court over the EV road user tarrifs.
But hey, at least we're not in NSW

Surprising after years of steady LNP leadership

It is sheer folly to pretend, as you and others are, that Victoria’s roads are not shit.
Nobody is doing that.

We're all saying it's not a purely Victorian issue

Also from that article

Despite the alarming figures, the Crime Statistics Agency stressed that population growth played a role in skewing the results. Relax Henny, the sky is not falling and we are still doing better than Qld and NSW

The number of police proceedings recorded in 2022–23 were:

208,359 in New South Wales
150,563 in Queensland
103,863 in Victoria
38,704 in South Australia
13,591 in the Northern Territory
13,071 in Tasmania
3,564 in the Australian Capital Territory
The numbers of proceedings increased in all published states and territories except New South Wales (down 13% or 30,075 proceedings) and Victoria (down 6% or 7,057 proceedings).

23/24 stats will be available in March
The report clearly states further down the reduction was due to a large decrease in misc offences like covid fines. The stat for serious crime actually jumped.

Police proceedings
There were 103,863 police proceedings in Victoria in 2022–23, a 6% decrease from the previous year. This decrease was due to miscellaneous offences, which declined 80% from the previous year (down 16,432 proceedings).

Most miscellaneous offences in Victoria over the past few years had been fines issued for COVID-19 offences.

Lol, have you been to Glen Waverley recently? It's extremely densely populated and getting denser. Much more populated than Tarneit for example.
Anywhere in the South East is densely populated it's the fastest growing corridor in the state and 1 of the biggest nationally. For all her faults the government has identified this and putting the SRL through there makes sense.

Correct, this is a year further than the ABS link.

Crimes per 100,000 population were only higher in 2016 (over the past 10 years). But still, it's pretty consistent, not a sustained upward trend. Certainly not something which is getting out of hand. It was worse, and in better financial times.

sstew doesn't listen to or read data. And he goes on about " Head in the sand", facts won't stand in the way of his feelings or histrionics. Out of control crime is straight out of the Dutton playbook and anyone who uses this rhetoric isn't really being serious. Perception doesn't match up with reality.

Stats for serious crimes jumped in lots of states. Henny Penny is carrying on as though we are the only state with crime. DV jumped 1% in Victoria and 7% in NSW and 13% in WA for example. Qld has more DV offenders than Vic despite them having a much smaller population. No one is saying Vic is perfect and crime free, but it's no bigger issue here than most other states.

Alot of people still have their head in the sand defending this pathetic corrupt state government
Everyone knows the ALP government is corrupt and incompetent however they can't lose when they don't have any opposition

It is probably less corrupt now than under Dan but lies and corruption is only now coming to light and Jacinta can't lie as well in public.

Yep lets hope the Libs can got there act together under Battin

Yep lets hope the Libs can got there act together under Battin
The ALP smear campaign has started!

The sheer hypocrisy of Labor basing its current campaign on Battin being the "Cuts" man when (A) it is Labor that is responsible for the state net debt bill per Victorian being on track to exceed $25,000 by 2027-28; and (B) Labor has already slashed costs in so many areas including Roads, Law & Order, Health, Community Services, just to be able to focus Big Build projects with cost over runs.
