Jacinta Allan - Leading a zombie government

That's the laugh I get from everyone getting outraged and threatening a boycott.
It's an internationally renowned tourist attraction.

I can guarantee from personal experience there will be multiple tourist buses filling up the train like every other day of the year.

There are some paid employees for what it's worth.

I'm guessing Battin thinks Jacinta should intervene given the PBR board is government legislation.

Except the day to day stuff is run by the PBPS
I was being facetious and I know there are paid employees, but still, as the member for Berwick, a small discussion with management to celebrate Australia Day could have accomplished the same outcome and been a feather in his cap if reported correctly as supporting his electorate.

Monbulk is an odd electorate, the North is Liberal Party, but the Hills and South are Greens/Labor. There's no new estates like Berwick/Pakenham so the demographics have remained constant, The voting for the Voice in the southern booths was about 60% Yes. Doesn't mean that it can't be swung, but at least in the South and Hills it will be hard, (a whole lot of unreconstructured refugees from 1975)

Historically, Puffing Billy is not particularly liked by the Dandenongs, but it is part of our lifestyle and "bugger off".

He was playing for the owners of the residents of the ticky tacky houses of his electorate

lol .... herald $cum reporting battin has gone in hard against allen on a ....... <checks website again - more out of disbelief than anything > ......... 'puffing billy australia day snub' ......... yep, thats where we are at in this age of trumpism

right wing conservatives do love trading on virtue signalling populism ........ pathetic creeps
HS dialling up the flag waving nationalism even more. I've seen a tonne of articles from them this week about Australia Day being 'cancelled' by someone.

My personal take is the low polling for govt is it’s ill conceived development zoning. It was supposed to be a liberal wedge and it’s backfired.

There’s lots of reasons why the development won’t happen

Jacinta now has the legitimate reason she needs to abandon SRL - the Federal government, which was expected to provide one third funding, is now not providing any funding, redirecting the $2+Billion earmarked for SRL to the Airport Rail Link.

On another issue besieging this government we have proof the Bail laws introduced by this government are completely ****ed. A 16 year old repeat offender posted on Facebook while driving the stolen car, boasting that if he gets caught he’ll be out on the street in 90 minutes. The 16 year old finishes his post saying that in Victoria teenagers will keep committing crime “because they will never have to serve time”

Contracts are signed for SRL. Not so airport link

If the govt is guaranteed to lose on late 2026, might dig in and continue valuable but unpopular projects

Yes. Contracts signed but there is NO funding for SRL. This will have implications on the state’s credit rating.

Do you know why the Feds are redirecting their funding. Because there is no business case for the complete SR Loop.

I remember the kirner govt was certain to lose, and turned swanston st into a car free zone before departing

Current govt is managing a huge infrastructure pipeline which is yet to play out.

Of course if voters remove them, they still get the benefit of the infrastructure

And it’s wrong to say there’s NO funding. You used capital letters There is funding for initial stages, it’s future funding which is clearly in doubt

Actually the state government have secured only a third of the funding for the initial stage and that’s being generous expecting it to cost anywhere near the $34.5 billion they’re claiming it will cost.

If Battin carries on like this, the tree-huggers of Belgrave will cancel the Polar Express Christmas train.

The Survival Day festival in Belgrave is bigger than any Australia Day event. Wrong place to pick a fight.

But I guess the argument is aimed at neanderthals in other outer-suburbs rather than the progressive pockets of the Dandenongs.

I may be wrong but apart from what the state government has committed, what else is there?
$2.2bn from Commonwealth.

It's still massively underfunded, but they'll get the tunnels built....
Linewide, the big operational package, is currently being assessed from 2 bidding consortiums. That's the big package. But it wouldn't really start in earnest until the tunnels are finished. Except the Depot, trains and electrical substations. When that's awarded, there won't be much turning back. At least unfinished tunnels are still an asset with low depreciation.

Hey, you're the one spreading misinformation. How about you do some research and get back to us all.

What misinformation have I spread? And why would someone in Adelaide care about what Jacinta Allen is doing?

The ABC report suggests the Federal Government is not even interested in directing the $2.2B to SRL.

Yes. Contracts signed but there is NO funding for SRL. This will have implications on the state’s credit rating.

This is what you said.
The link you've just posted says nothing about redirecting funding, or that's there is no funding.
It says under review.

Therefore, your initial post is misinformation.

Garbage. Here's the deal.

The Feds promised $2.2B which has not yet been handed over to the Allan Government
The Feds are saying they are still "assessing" the case.
The Feds have asked for the Business Case which the Allan Government refuses to provide (it has handed over a glossy business case for the early stage of SRL, but not a business case for the entire project which the Feds say is what needs to be assessed).
The Feds are now reportedly talking about redirecting the $2.2B to the Airport Rail Link.

Where is the misinformation? More importantly, where is the money for SRL? Even if the Feds handover the $2.2B that still leaves some $8B that Allan wants the Feds to contribute unfunded.

If Victoria's credit rating takes another hit because of the government's sheer pig-headedness, we taxpayers will be paying an estimated $1B a year extra in increased interest. I suppose that's misinformation too?

Very hard to reason with those posters. They are so one eyed labor.

Pretty hard when you just make stuff up and post it as fact.

Well please feel free to enlighten everyone and show the evidence of the Government having secured the $35 billion+ they need to build stage 1.

Battin and his party think there home and hosed so there not bothering with economic policies all about culture wars just like his federal mates. They have reason to believe that however unless something drastic changes.

You forgot to mention the billions of dollars debt the state is in.
So the Albanese government has your vote for getting the budget in surplus for the first time in fifteen years...particularly when the Liberals in power had multiple opportunities to do the same but shoveled money out at election time to win favour?

Battin's not stupid. Way too far out from election time to put himself out there with an economic policy. He'll fight hard, the problem is when promoting the likes of Bev McArthur it shows the hardliners are getting their say which is a huge problem when trying to talk to the middle.

What a predictable fraud is our dear Premier.

On the eve of the Werribee by-election she announces the state's bail laws are "too soft" and need to be urgently reviewed. Funny that only last week on 3AW she vehemently denied there was a problem and even claimed changes by her government to the bail laws introduced by her government, including ankle bracelets, were more than effective.

Don't expect a "review" to yield anything any time soon...
