I reckon we would go 7,25 & Bowes and a promise not to take Phillipou at 4 for Pick 8

GC will want your pick 9 or your future first.
Not sure why you think they are going to choose to get reamed when they don’t have to.
Why not, Bowes 7 & 25 for 9 & 27 & Long.Jack Bowes, pick 7 and 31 to the Saints for Ben Long and pick 9. If the Suns are really generous they can throw in pick 34 as well but don't see that happening.
Lots of figures get thrown around with no one actually knowing what the deal is. I doubt Crouch would have chosen to take 100k less a year so he could get a trigger for a 5th.Go and read the Daniher article and see whether the contract years make a difference to the compensation lol, they played the game and got the band 1 compensation. There's a trigger clause for his 5th year, it was initially reported around $700K (per the article) at 4 years so on the edge of band 1 (Rockliff just missed out on a 4 year contract at $650K 2 years earlier) but he end up agreeing on $600K (just missed out on band 2) at 5 year, less money per year but an extra year and given his history of injuries I can see why he did.
Port Adelaide to sign ex-Brisbane Lions captain Tom Rockliff as restricted free agent
Big move, big money: Rockliff to join Portwww.foxsports.com.au
Bowes should be staying or traded for a first round pick, without a sweetener.
Getting rid of Day, Thompson, Atkins, MacPherson; is a much better idea than Bowes.
Perhaps they have no market value…. But still better off keeping Bowes.
Depends how many retirements Geelong has.
Thats why a heap of players are waiting. Tuesday will be a very busy day.
He signed an extension in 2016 to end 2019 and our champion list management team thought it would be a good idea to extend to the end of 2023 whilst recovering from an ACL.
Before his first ACL he was a damn good key defender. He's 31 now and playing in the VFL on a stupid amount of money
Yes he would given his history of injuries, hence we were never going to match 4 years let alone 5 years and that's why I said we had no power in the trade. $750-800K have easily been a band 1 compensation, $700K is be borderline going by the Rockliff FA situation only a few years earlier.Lots of figures get thrown around with no one actually knowing what the deal is. I doubt Crouch would have chosen to take 100k less a year so he could get a trigger for a 5th.
And the Daniher article you told me to read suggests you would need 800k a year to trigger band one.
Brisbane played the system by reducing the contract years so they could pay him more per year to trigger band one. They then signed him on for an extra 2 years on a smaller contract.
We were never planning on paying Crouch that much and we had no need to play the system as Crows weren't matching a bid.
It was delusional.to ever think he was getting Adelaide a band one compensation.
They won't get reemed as much as people suggest, but it wouldn't take 2 firsts to get 7 and BowesGC will want your pick 9 or your future first.
Not sure why you think they are going to choose to get reamed when they don’t have to.
Geelong wanted to get Hopper, so they had that money at least. I am sure if they really really wanted to they could make it work. It is only for two years, so re-negotiate some contracts with current players so they are more back ended. Tom Stewart is on contract for two more years for instance; extend him another two, back end those two, done easy.
They won't get reemed as much as people suggest, but it wouldn't take 2 firsts to get 7 and Bowes
They want Bowes off their books, just like Brodie last year.
Whoever gets him is going have to pay little or nothing for him.
So giving up 9 and a future first for 7 wouldn't happen.
Basically giving up a future first to move up the draft 2 spots and ending up with a bloke on huge money that they want off their books
700k may have got him to band 2, it was never getting band one. Says as much in the Daniher article you shared earlier.Yes he would given his history of injuries, hence we were never going to match 4 years let alone 5 years and that's why I said we had no power in the trade. $750-800K have easily been a band 1 compensation, $700K is be borderline going by the Rockliff FA situation only a few years earlier.
The AFL's secret formula for free agency compensation
Length of contract is largely irrelevant, but a one-year age gap can make a big difference.www.theage.com.au
Oh right, apologies LittleG I read that wrongHe said 9 or a future 1st for 7, not both picks for 7.
Like I said, going by what happened to Rockliff only a few years early when Brisbane requested a "please explain" from the AFL they said he just missed out on a band 1 compensation and was offered $650K at 4 years from Port Power so $700K at 4 years will be borderline band 1 2 years later with the increase in the salary cap. FYI, apparently Amon is getting a band 2 compensation with a $650K offer and similarly Lycett as well so $700K is borderline band 1.700k may have got him to band 2, it was never getting band one. Says as much in the Daniher article you shared earlier.
We were never paying him close to 800k
Ok, so you are just going to ignore the most recent article suggesting it would take 800kLike I said, going by what happened to Rockliff only a few years early when Brisbane requested a "please explain" from the AFL they said he just missed out on a band 1 compensation and was offered $650K at 4 years from Port Power so $700K at 4 years will be borderline 2 years later with the increase in the salary cap.
$800K is the upper end of band 1. I'm taking about the lower end of band 1.Ok, so you are just going to ignore the most recent article suggesting it would take 800k
Barracked for North as a kid.We should bring pick 7 home, good Geelong boy.
What the hell is the upper end of band one?$800K is the upper end of band 1. I'm taking about the lower end of band 1.
There's a range, hence why the AFL said Rockliff just missed out and Motlop just scrap in for a band 2 compensation despite his offer being $100K less but is a year younger. $800K+ will be the upper end and likely $700K will be the lower end going by what happen to the Rockliff FA situation. What the hell is the upper end of band one?
And what is the lower end? You either trigger band one or you don't.
That article suggests you need around 800k to trigger it
Long has nominated to go to the Suns, reason why he was listed In the trade. Long would be on half of what Bowes is on and less than Rankine. Were GCS looking to get Ben Long already?
Because it seems silly to do a salary dump and give away those picks only to bring in another developed player on good money.
I would have thought Bowes + 7 for pick A and pick B. Or whever they end up being. But no players.
Another possible trade but I would add 34 going to the Saints because we are helping with he salary dump. Why not, Bowes 7 & 25 for 9 & 27 & Long.
It's definitely a wild ride following the SunsThats a crazy extension given his lack of durability. Crazy
A couple of free Pubs. Why the hell would he agree to that.. if he has the $1.8m x 2 years locked in already?.
be fxxkn stupid..
do twice the work for the same pay.. when the same pay is already locked in.
Yeah.Barracked for North as a kid.
Not sure how geelong plan on fitting in Bowes, given bruhn and Henry linked to them so I would assume they are being offered decent contracts, on top of this Bowes would want extra years + $$ at the new club he is going to, given he knows they will get pick 7...so given this how does Geelong get it done? Also forgetting they need to trade for bruhn and henry- want will they have left to give to GC in return for Bowes and 7??
