We should get Jono Patton in to teach us
Poor example he ended up being sacked …something Collingwood will be forced to do one day after multiple issues

Im not saying they should be sacked but geez how many scandals are you allowed to have at Collingwood before enough is enough…just tell them to keep off their phone for the rest of the year and concentrate on the finals

It comes down to whether you think players are role models or not.

If they are, then having them on social media making judgement calls on the looks of women, rating them on how straight their teeth are etc, is never going to wash.

Every person who has ever dated and ever will makes a judgement call on another person's looks.

I think you missed the point though. They were speculating, based on a tiktok trend. There was no specific person or photo attached to their opinion

Dead set if people are genuinely upset by this than I'm packing it in. People get offended at absolutely anything, the whole world especially in Australia have gone so incredibly woke.
I think its more about the absolute stupidity of filming and uploading it. How the hell did two AFL players think rating women on appearance and posting that on social media is a good idea?

I'm 50ish so I'm a bit older than those kids but it seems as tho that is something people in their teens and early 20s do on their phones. Its like we used to drop pingers and go dancing to doof music all night, they do dumb s**t on websites/apps where your image is how you are judged by the world. Kids have stupid ways to have fun.

Its not the same as what Degoey does.

Don't think Collingwood should really be teaching young footy players to protect ok boomers from change.
I think many from the Boomer generation definitely need to change, but teaching players to do risk assessment is a valuable skill IMO regardless of generation and occupation. It prevents having to deal with backlash in the first place rather than having to explain your actions to people who don’t understand.

If they’re not going to take a lesson out of this, then they may end up recording and publishing a pic/video of themselves doing something worse.

It seems to me at least that Collingwood need to talk more with their players about self-management of risks and what it looks like given the last two years.

It doesn’t have to only be looking at it from a legal/illegal perspective either. Sometimes, doing something legal can still have an impact on reputation. For example, if any Bulldogs player now post a picture of themselves with self-raising flour in a little bag, then that would be poor risk management on their behalf even if what they did was just a Tik Tok trend. Easiest thing is just to not do such a thing given that they have control over what they do and little control over how a large group of people perceive them.

I know that you and many others on here understand this, but players need to understand it too given they’re public figures. I’d love the media to change, but it doesn’t look like it’ll happen soon.

Aparently Darcy Cameron returned a DVD to Blockbuster 2 days late a few years ago. Herald Sun to reveal the shocking details tomorrow.

That’s outrageous! Blockbuster exists? People still use DVDs?

Is this some new retro hipster trend?

Yep it is. Your players are a pack of morons who need to turn off their phones.

What they do in private is no-ones business but when they film it and it goes public it becomes their employer's business.

McRae should skip a training session and instead use the time to show the players how to turn off their phone. They clearly dont know.

Maybe thats where de Goey was yesterday.

That’s the stupid part for me, wtf would you video yourself doing this stuff?

This guy on the society board is ironically an anti woke right winger a Trump supporters I believe, but this time its selectively going hard on Collingwoods culture.

It's these sort of stains why the herald sun gets clcikbaits 'controversies' involving Collingwood.

They are known as grifters basically. No morals or beliefs, just whatever gets them attention and therefore $$$

Hope McRae pulls a Bevo and goes in dry at the journo's presser.
Remember Mark Thompson's "all of you" presser where he defended Brad Ottens?

It galvanized the group. McRae might be able to have the same effect here

The culture of posting dumb s**t on your phone?

They didn't do that.

I get it - * Collingwood and their players - but this is just a stupid beat up.

The game is ducked. Gil has basically ruined it. There are issues with crowds and umpiring (and umpiring is as responsible for the crowd drops as everything else, you can watch a game, especially as a neutral without wondering wtf is going on half the time,) the game just doesn't flow like it should cos of rule changes, professionalism and coaching and too many umpires. The MRP is inconsistent and seems to be biased toward big names. If you aren't a tech wiz then navigating ticketing is a disaster. There is non stop noise and "entertainment" at games. There is no *en peace and quiet at quarter or half time and flashing lights and noise to shut what's left of the crowds up after every goal at some games.

This sort of media noise exists to distract from consequences of that.

There are more AFL journos than players in the comp (well it seems that way anyway,) and they never shut up. Its non stop noise so the afl media junket has to find pointless s**t like this to bang on about for a day or two otherwise they'd actually start looking at the state of the game.

Degoey is another issue altogether.

Hang on, your hobby horse and cause maybe now Gil is evil, umpiring, changing game etc doesn’t mean it has anything to do with 2 Collingwood guy’s videoing themselves doing stuff on TikTok, or peoples reactions to it.

I may as well try and link it to the decay of society and draw a line from this to the Jan 6 capitol riots. (Just to get clear, there is no link)

Okay, this is dead set trying to ride on the Collingwood flavour of the month. There is absolutely nothing in this and is just highlighting people’s specific preferences, which we all have. But lets not act like this is some cancel culture rubbish or how society is too ‘woke’, this is purely an article put out for clicks. Nobody was complaining about this before the article and no one is after.

Yes people will somehow link this to De goey and some weird Collingwood culture issue.

If AFLW players jumped on the same trend and rated men would it be as big of a moral/social issue ? (No issue with that by the way if it was)

Or is it a big deal because it’s higher profile athletes (afl having bigger fan base), Ginnivan is polarising and DeGoey in the news again has caused a pile on for Collingwood ?

It’s a little bit cringe worthy/douchey but still… it’s a big fuss because social justice

Wouldn’t be sexist as the AFLW players would also be rating women

We don't know anything about De Goey's situation, well i don't other than vaguely. But what you are saying does apply to him re Bali. Mind blowingly dumb.

But i don't think the thing these two two are doing is within cooee of that tho. I don't see why they'd look at it in as anything other than completely different either.

Its like Horne-Francis liking that tweet or insta post from fake trades. Its called "fake trades" and there is a thread on here about him leaving because of it. I haven't even read it but I'll bet there is no mention of him liking comments from north players and staff about him staying or expecting him to stay.

Maybe that was a dumb decision but only cos he underestimated how ****en stupid some people are and how desperate morons are for clicks in today's media climate. But really the onus is on us to cut a kid that age some slack. Same with these two, especially because the context of this game is so far removed from degoeys reputation or even what he did in Bali.

I mean it's not a good idea, it's not a bad idea, who cares what somebody is rated, I genuinely cannot believe this has traction.

seriously? from a bagger .. don't you remember Fevola .. lmfao pull ya head in !

Lol I like how people somehow think supporters of other clubs can’t comment on other teams.

It’s not like you or I set our clubs culture.

I also think original post was about overall culture of society not the club.

I also don’t believe the 2 Collingwood boys did anything wrong; just dumb for sharing.

If Carey can smash a wine glass in his missus' face and still have a meaningful career then these 2 should be okay. Lots of hypocrisy in the league. Dane Swan bashes a cleaner but because he is good at footy and won a Brownlow it's alllll good.
