Don't you think Ginnivan would fare better if he just reined in the mayo, and gave up those pleading looks at the umpires?
Yes. The reality is that umpires do a lot of guessing based on the player's reaction to contact and they've learnt to not trust his reaction because he's constantly throwing himself to the ground.

well he should stop looking at the umpires with pleading eyes on the way down to the ground.... pendles didnt do that when he got his free kick... that blondie pest for WB does a bit of it too and the umpires are wary of him too..

i know fans are one-eyed but I can see how he is challenging the umpires and the umpires will not like it. if people dont see it then fair enough. I just think the kid could give himself a break by forgetting about the sales pitch for his head high tackle and just take it around the neck and wait for the whistle...but the kid wants to be jack ginnivan and good luck to him...

In theory you’re right but they apparently are human so thinking comes into it and the AFL loves nothing more than a grey area.

That said Jack knows the ruling now, even if it’s wrong so should be able to focus on winning the ball and kicking goals.

It's not a ruling at all it's pure vilification.

It can't be a 'ruling' until the rules are changed.

This is all about the AFL being unwilling to admit that the law was deeply flawed from the beginning.

Awful lot of "If Ginnivan played for...." as if he's the only player to be singled out playing for frees. We're quick to forget that it became so rife that the AFL started penalising players milking free kicks. I'll bet that many here were more than happy when the media started laying the boots into Stevie J and have conveniently forgotten that the umps stopped giving him a lot of genuine free kicks after it was highlighted.

This article about Ballantyne was 10 years ago. Sound familiar?

"The only aspect of his game the coach wanted the 24-year-old to change was to stop trying to milk free kicks.

"He gets buffeted a lot off the ball because he is very talented," Lyon said. "He is small and he is hittable. It is that milking that we have put on the agenda. He doesn't want to be remembered for that.

"He wants to be remembered for his great ball winning and pace and goal kicking and enthusiasm."

If I was Jack Ginnivan, I would be engaging a good lawyer and compiling a file of examples, including the umpires names, of all of the incidents where the rules are applied differently to his head compared to other players. I would continue to add to it until he is forced from the game by the AFL and then commence the legal battle for compensation. 10 years of lost earnings plus reputational damage and perhaps injury should add up to a bit. And what great publicity for the AFL.

That would be a good way to lose a lot of money and end your career as the greatest laughing stock to have ever played the game.

Ginnivan was forced to go to his back pocket and look for a few other tricks.
And he had them.
And I liked it.
Nobody likes players that milk frees.
The umpires have been told to make him earn them (clearly).
The AFL control umpires.
Umpires control the game.
The AFL control the game.
The AFL are challenging Ginnivan.
He’s already at the cross roads.
The game is already asking Ginnivan questions.
In the second half he had answers.
Good on him.
This is the new direction ahead.
Stop flopping for frees.
Today he showed, in a very tough game, that he doesn’t have to rely on flopping.
He can produce more.

Not entirely on your own. Others share your view or the sentiment of it.

However, keep to dark corners, lest you find yourself theatrically stabbed by many and left a crumpled heap like Caesar.

It's most certainly a shame that his career is fast becoming defined by the issue of playing for free kicks.
Et tu, Lefty!?

Cox should also engage Amnesty International to have the AFL up on war crimes for letting opponents chop his arms all the time. Or we could just settle the f down.

I don't think he did actually make it.

In the end, he just isn't worthy.

If the man himself should feel that my posts are still worthy enough of his attention, then that's good enough for me.

You are buying into the one trick storyline?

More strings to his bow than goaling from free kicks.
He's a great finisher around goals, but he hasn't shown much of an ability to get those chances without free kicks. This season he would be operating at about 5-6 touches a game without any free kicks, that's extremely poor.

You're turning his possessions gained by free kick (which he generates by being first to the footy...) into non-possessions. Your analysis, once again, is nonsense
