Oppo Camp Jack Ginnivan (Traded to Hawks 2023)

Sprint coach can only do so much. There are some of us just without that burst.

Ginnivan needs to find other ways to have an impact. Otherwise the game may test him. If he doesn’t have speed, he needs a big tank and the ability to take marks.

He can certainly improve it over what it is now which can only assist him.

He has good fwd smarts so I'm not worried.

I did like Fly's performance in the post-match presser when asked about it

Being too non direct for mine.
MM, Sheedy, Mathews Chris Scott Clarkson would just come straight out with it. And call it for what it is.

The AFL has come out and said we have a new rule and are adjusting to it, basically they have set a rule that any attempt to evade a tackle and at the same time you get clipped high is play on or holding the ball. It's basically huntingbseason now the tackler can take you high if you stand stand upright.

He's a great finisher around goals, but he hasn't shown much of an ability to get those chances without free kicks. This season he would be operating at about 5-6 touches a game without any free kicks, that's extremely poor.
kciked 5 on anzac day. Only 1 of them was a free kick. He finds space in the F50 to take a mark, and kicks goals.

If you duck you forfeit your right to prior opportunity. So the commentators are correct, simply put.

In the Ginnivan situation if he gets tackled high the instant he gets the ball, and he didn’t duck, it’s a high contact free kick every time.

Yes but he often lowers his centre of gravity prior to taking possession, he then gets hit high and they are saying no free as he lowered his height.

Ginnivan does it multiple ways. Some he does it after taking the ball and other times he leans in to it prior to taking the ball.

Basically duck season is open.

There is no new rule. The current rule has been in place since 2017.

The umpires haven't been enforcing the rules properly.

Yes. The reality is that umpires do a lot of guessing based on the player's reaction to contact and they've learnt to not trust his reaction because he's constantly throwing himself to the ground.

Lol it's not even a pleading look, it's more a I just had my head ripped off where is the fokan free kick. Open your retinas and umpire the game properly.

No the interpretation of said rule has changed. Basically making it a new rule.

The original intent was stop player charging head first at the tackler like a RAM. Which was in vogue then.
And the buckle at the knees with the arm lift that selwood employs forcing high contact.
Ginnivans high contact occurs first he then lifts the arm after it.

They are basically telling the tackler as soon as a player looks to evade take their head off and it will be play on.

The new interpretation of the rule was only introduced because Ginni was so good at drawing free kicks, and then converting them to goals. If he got free kicks in the middle of the ground like Selwood, the AFL probably wouldn't feel the need to change things. I think Jack is a natural footballer and will only get better despite the rule change.

The Ginnivan rule. Took what Duckwood did and improved on it change in interpretation to stop it.

The Clement rule. James Hird owned change to in the back interpretation.

The Stunner Steve Mckee rule. Change to body on body at centre bounce forcing a leap took Mckee out of the game.

The Interchange rule. Collingwood win a flag after revolutionary AFL Interchange use.
Rule changes to combat it. Pies fall back to the pack.

Hmm nothing suss...

Like you said, nothing suss except for the standard pies supporters claiming to be hard done by.

AFL intervention in the Treloar "verbal" deal where the Pies had to pay 100% of the disputed amount....

The only team comparable is Hawks they equally have had repeated rules changed nuking tactics in successful years.

Hall behind the play rule? you're kidding right? that rule was well in effect before Barry was being a loose cannon.

That wasn’t the rule, but that was how they were umpiring Ginni personally, yes.

Today Dan Richardson has come out and said that without changing the interpretation of the rule, that they are absolutely changing the interpretation of the rule. So we’ll see if everyone gets umpired the same as Ginni now, or whether it’s BS. My guess is that Selwood will still get the same old frees. And we’ll see how Ginni adapts to being a league pariah.

The Buddy natural arc rule was designed specifically to HELP Buddy!

Punching someone 50 metres behind play off the ball and having a ruling that it was "in play" was definitely unusual at the time....

Media highlight a goal kicker playing for and getting frees - that player loses the benefit of the doubt and the umpires stop paying frees, even when legitimate. Matty Lloyd, Ben Brown, Stevie J, etc.

The thing is that he didn't lose the umpires over the high tackles. He lost them in the first half of the Hawks game when his free kick goals came from a ridiculous flop and a dive forward when he knew a tackle was coming from behind. And he's since upped the ante on the push and shove, flop and appeal for a free. Needed to just stick to drawing high contact rather than the increasing amounts of staging he's doing.

Will be a distant memory very soon if he can’t adapt to the new rules.
It will allow Henry and Johnson to occupy the half forward flanks.
Sick Boy will be fine. More than a one trick pony.

Young boy comes in and earns a few free kicks, gets some goals.
Big deal.
AFL reaction is embarrassing and will bite them in the arse.
Won’t impact us,
Sick Boy will just find another way to contribute to his team.
