Oppo Camp Jack Ginnivan (Traded to Hawks 2023)

It's not decreasing his high tackles only decreased his free's for stat.
He was getting better and better at it and getting high contact 3 times a game by mid season last year. His technique and awareness was so good that he'd be tackled 5 times in a game and 3 would be high

People make supposedly definitive statements about the amount of frees he gets. In 2022, the following free kicks were given

Ginnivan got 30 free kicks in 20 games,
Breust got 33 in 21 games,
Papley got 16 in 16 games.
Pickett got 12 in 21 games.
Rozee got 29 in 22 games
Cody Weightman got 21 in 20 games
Izak Rankine got 16 in 18 games
Michael Walters got 27 in 19 games
Tyson Stengle got 15 in 22 games
Zac Bailey got 11 in 22 games
Charlie Cameron got 19 in 22 games
Ben Ainsworth got 22 in 21 games

I got bored at this stage. I know Ginnivan has a strategy of trying to get free kicks and depending on what you think of him, it's either working or not working. If some of the guys that I mentioned have similar strategies, I cant see a trend.

Pretty pointless list really unless you can also add data about how many frees they should have gotten and how many of those they did get were for high contact.

Which of the players in the list don't use the same actions as Ginnivan to draw a free? Short answer, they all do it.

hill and mcreery have received 3 free each kicks in 10 games. ginnivan has got one in 6 games but you could argue that he has played less than half the others game time...

so he is short one free kick.
3 each so 6 in total. May not have been for high so might be a pointless stat.

As an aside McCreery has given away 14.o_O

I cannot understand the rationale behind the thinking that it will better if he gets less high frees paid when surely the complete opposite has occurred ,because he definitely is getting high tackled and because people do not get pinged for it they will do it all more. This is what we have last season and so far this season why would they change if no is going one to penalise them and if the umpires do nothing then it is up to his team mates to help him. They should have went for Redmond when he did it last year,it has made an easier target there ,s no doubt about that.

Lol I can’t believe people are even trying to argue it.

Because he was driving into the tackler with his head and body on a near horizontal whilst dropping the knee.

We aren’t talking about only that particular technique but ALL ways he tries to extricate himself from the tackle or evade or other.

Last year when they were paying the frees people think he should be paid, he wasn't trying to evade the tackler, he was making a bee line for the tackler and trying and succeeding in getting taken high. Paying those frees wasn't protecting the head, it was encouraging him to get taken high and others to copy his technique and get taken high

did you hear about beau mccreery being crucified by the umpires? 14 free kicks against!! Haven't the umpires seen his mum's speech?

Don't like being fact checked?

actually i didnt research the free kicks against. I just provided free kicks for info....

but generally speaking, I love the attention I get in fact checking.

i'm planning to get in touch with Julie and get her to front a campaign...her son is being crucified. I need to see the video of her dealing with the AFL execs...

Well your free kicks for were wrong as I posted and as to the rest of your post have no idea what you are on about.

yes i see. i left the word "each" out. But the resultant calculation was correct...... 3 free kicks each in 10 games.....ginnivan gets 1 free kick in about 5 games....

so he owed a free kick....or maybe half a free kick

It’s actully not all about Jack and his health.
Yes it’s an important part of it….but the bolded is the broader reason why.

I posted this last year.

But watching U14 kids practice the dropping of the knees, lowering the body and lifting the arm at training was absolutely terrifying.
So much so that we had to stop them from trying it.

AFL players are kids heros.
What they do has a direct influence on the juniors.

Agree with it or not, don’t really care.

But it absolutely cannot be part of the game to attempt to get high frees by putting your head in danger.

AFL don’t have it right yet.

But what they have now is a hell of a lot better than what they had last year.

In the middle of last year, his technique was getting 3 high tackles a game, plus a punch in the head every second week because it was pissing opponents off so much. This year, I think there's been 3 high tackles not paid to Jack. One with the old technique. This latest one that just looked like a Selwood classic to me and one that he should have definitely got, but didn't.

With the old technique, he would have had about 15 high tackles by now plus a couple of punches to the head, head ground into the turf, etc rather than about 3 high tackles. But we're talking lawyers because the AFL are setting him up for cte by not rewarding him for inducing knocks to the head. **** me.
