Oppo Camp Jack Ginnivan (Traded to Hawks 2023)

Imagine if Collingwood were a couple of points behind in the GF, with seconds to go, and Ginni got his head ripped off 15 metres out directly in front of goal and they didn't pay it. That's the worry.
I feel sick thinking about it. I was listening to the Geelong game on the old transistor today and heard the commentator say the umpire gave a Giant's player the heads up that he needed to come back on the mark unlike in the final when Ginnivan was pinged for 50 in the prelim even though he never moved. He then said "different strokes for different folks, I suppose."

Everyone who isn't a hater knows Jack has been crucified by the umps. They love taking him down as they think he is a smart arse. But there is no line in the rule book about cheating if a player you don't like is infringed

If Ginni had watched the ducking and the flopping of the Dogs and Cats players today - e.g. Cameron and most of all Weightman - and all of it richly rewarded by the umpires - he’d be one very confused young man tonight.

No doubt the media won’t mention it at all.
Cameron's performance was ten times worse than anything Ginnivan has ever done. Imagine the media frenzy if Jack had done that and got the free. A blight on the game! Shameful! A terrible example for kids...... That ump clearly never saw a high tackle and literally paid the free to the superstar playing in front of his home crowd. If you don't see it you cannot give a free. Yet he did and the tackle wasn't even close to head or even neck high.

We'll scream the roof off tomorrow when they don't pay Jack any head high free's... because we all know they won't.

Last year Ginni made a point of telling the world how he worked hard at milking free kicks.

He told anyone who'd listen that he's been refining his techniques for 7 or 8 years.

It wasn't a bright moment from the lad. I find it hard to believe that there's no correlation between those 'candid' (stupid) comments that he's trying to fool the umps and the ump's refusal to be fooled by anything less than decapitation.

I'm sure if he could have his time again, he wouldn't say that. Particularly if he knew he'd never get another free kick again because of it.

yeah, he was probably a bit naive about the whole situation at the time. As kids can be early days.

He also made a big song and dance when he received a high free and went on about it. He's definitely done himself no favours with the umps.

You'd like to think the adults (aka umpires) could finally move on from being humiliated, stop being vindictive & just start paying the high free's when they are there regardless of who the player is.

We can only hope 🙏

It's rarely a good idea to gloat about gaming the system when you're just starting out in the system.

Lesson learned, but damage already done.

All the commentators think there is a correlation..virtually all of them say he gets umpired differently...

Umps also aren't charmed by the fact that he always seemed to expect a free kick.

Noble does a good job of drawing those free kicks, not least because he keeps playing the possession (e.g. looks to give off, dispose etc.).

Maybe it'll turn in time.

Hope so. In the meantime he's just going to have to find other ways to get the ball & kick goals. Because he ain't getting a free anytime soon.

He's got tricks. Magnificent reader of the play and positions himself well.

Unsettled start to this season but I have hopes that he'll build into it.

If he doesn't, he'll still manage to be an annoying little bastard along the way.

I'm really hoping he has a good one tomorrow after finally getting some decent game time. And he has unfinished business with Stepho 😆

It's a shocking reflection on the umpires that they can be so vindictive and childish. Clearly, many players play for frees and the fact that one kid openly admitted it should not mean headlocks and double handed shoves in the back or 50m penalties when others get a warning should be deemed perfectly understandable because their feelings were hurt.

The footage of him teaching Madge in training to do it also probably didn’t help

Plus he puts mayo on them. So it looks suss and is really bloody hard to umpire, as high contact isn't enough to get a free, it's got to be high contact that isn't self created.

An article from The Roar:

They have some good articles, but they also had one that said Nick Daicos should have been suspended for that little punch.
