Probably in the selection firing line purely by virtue of being the sub, but it’s pretty difficult to come into an intense game like that at the time he did and have a huge impact. I reckon he did about as well as he could have.

The advantage of fresh legs in that situation is well outweighed by adapting to the intensity that the other 43 players have lived for the previous two hours. It’s not much time to bring yourself up to speed.

i'm not so certain. I actually think the Ginni has better goal sense that Hill, I'd like to see Hill pushed up the field and Ginni closer to goal. Hill's speed and kicking skills are a weapon and should be used more, playing higher up the ground getting another 5-6 touches can easily translate to another 3 score involvements with Hill. I think maybe lipinski out. Daicos in and Markov sub
Agree, wholeheartedly.
Lipinski also for me is the one in the gun.
Ginni has smarts also of which are invaluable.

Whilst his speed is unimpressive, I thought his chase and pressure he applied to a Demon (Rivers? Can't recall) who was having a long shot on goal was instrumental in forcing the miss

It was kinda like we in the crowd all knew he wasn’t gonna catch him, but the anonymous Melbourne player (Rivers? Sparrow? Who the **** knows!) didn’t.

Some are critical of him because he didn’t do enough in the 20 minutes he was out there?

My God. He couldn’t control the amount of game time, but he made the absolute most of it. How often has a sub come on late in a game and been invisible? The fact that he gets involved so quickly is meritorious in itself.

The buzz generated when he comes on is also invaluable and we the fans contribute to it. The Ginni ‘lift’ has become a trademark, and Fly is already using it to our advantage. I’d like him in the team every week, but I can see what Fly is doing with him as the sub.

We have created a narrative around Ginni, there is a deliberate strategy here, and I love it.

The continuous nitpicking of his game is not only tedious, but breathtakingly ignorant of what we are doing with him.

I think Lipinski should be dropped before him, Pat had that shoulder surgery and he has never got going at all. Someone has to be replaced by Daicos and he looks the most likely.

I am not certain Lipinski is afraid of contact but he is wary of hurting shoulder again, I think Hills wheels are more value up the ground.

Will stay in the team. You hear how loud it was when they showed him coming onto the ground?

Thought he his well. His pressure and tackling has improved so much.
Think it was bad management only bringing him on for last 10 mins when we struggled to move the ball forward.

Here, here! Or hear, hear! I'm never sure which. Point is: you nailed it, VP.

You're spot on re: Ginni. You couldn't have asked for much more than he gave. We never once had possession of the ball forward of centre in the entire time he was on the ground, and yet he got his hands on the ball half a dozen times (and cleanly, too - he didn't fumble once, which is no mean feat for a guy being subbed on halfway through Q4); he made good, quick decisions; and most importantly, he tackled, chased and pressured as well as he ever has.

And you're right - he gives us a lift. The energy he extracts from the crowd affects the team. It's a genuine asset. We'd be mad not to use it.

The crowd went nuts (I was on the wing, can only imagine what it was like on the ponsford stand) when it showed he was about to come on.
He's so universally loved and reaction from our fans... I have seen nothing like it.

Murphy fiddles with his headband after every contest. It would drive me insane. I don't know why they put up with it.
Its Ginni's trademark. Long sleeves. Long shorts. Headband.

Murphy prob only started wearing the headband this year I reckon. Moore too. Ginni been wearing it since he was drafted. Prob even in his U18 junior days

His pressure and tackling has improved so much, you can tell its been a focus on his lately. Will hold him in good stead going into pre-season. Had some massive contests, and that HTB tackle was huge. In times goes past, he wouldn't have been able to do that.

Think he did plenty in his very limited minutes.

I like him too, Jen, but you don’t base selection on crowd response.

No, but he did very well given his limited minutes. Couldn't have asked for much more, I wouldn't imagine?

No, I was happy with his output in the time he had. I would have preferred he got the entire game rather than sub, to be honest.

Same. Or at least more than the last 10 mins. Hopefully in the prelim if he is sub again, bring him on at 3QT

Obviously lacks pace, but is so clean and gets to the right spots to make things happen. I think we need him in the team, at least as the sub. Lipinski can go out for Daicos.
