Disgruntled Crow Jack Gunston wants to join Hawthorn

PROMISING Adelaide forward Jack Gunston wants to play for Hawthorn next year.

Gunston, 20, showed his potential with five goals against Richmond in Round 23 and would be a perfect foil for Hawk superstar Lance Franklin.
The No.29 pick in the 2009 draft walked out on Adelaide when on the verge of re-signing and the Crows stripping him of an award as their best young player.
The 191cm former Sandringham Dragon has already met with several clubs. Five, including North Melbourne and Carlton, have been chasing him.
With Gunston having stated his desire to go to Hawthorn, the club will have to strike a deal with Adelaide on compensation.
Gunston's manager Ned Guy told the Herald Sun: "He has told the club he wants to go to Hawthorn, and we are hopeful we can get a deal done without too much pain."

What would be a fair and equitable trade for both clubs?

Our first pick (24) and a fringe player (ala young) is my thinking.

Jordan Lisle and Pick 24 for Gunston??

I'm hearing pick 24 and Schoenmakers.

It's now up to the Crows to accept that or toss him in to the PSD.

No way will that happen. I doubt hawthorn would budge if adelaide asked for just Lisle.
It begins.

Oh wait, this shit's been going on for ages now.

Anyway, I hope the third party rumour mentioned in the last thread is on the money.

Package from Hawthorn (maybe first rounder + player) -> Team X
Team X's first rounder -> Adelaide
Gunston -> Hawthorn

Im sure you are

Be honest, thats just what you think it will take.

Dont overrate Lisle, hawk fans.

Pick 24 would get it done for me. However i dont see Gunston being anything great and wouldnt give anything more than pick 35 (just my opinion, on what i think he will offer)

Isn't Jarryd Roughead the perfect foil for Lance Franklin? Strange club to choose if he is after greater opportunities.

Kurt Tippet wants out as well? Sheesh, and here everyone was thinking Port Adelaide was the SA club in crisis...

Jackie boy might now be wishing he didn't piss off his previous employer as much as he did ... because there ain't a lot of love from the Crows to get Gunston where he wants to go.

And just on Gunston wanting Hawthorn. I thought the whole point was he missed his Mum or his girlfriend put her foot down and said get back to Melbourne. Surely there are 9 clubs he could join and still get to catch up with Mummy once a week.

Although he has nominated his wish to go to Hawthorn im not sure Adelaide are going to abide by that to well, especially considering how he left and how pissed they were with him and Davis. To be fair TableTennis said Hawthorn had given an offer to the crows but it was far weaker than what Essendon had offered.

I dont think hes a lock to go to the hawks just yet.

Yeah, but the 9 other clubs dont have a bloke by the name of "Franklin" to play along side. Gunston would be able to play as the 3rd tall alongside Franklin and Roughy. Lisle now branded as a backman.

As for fair compo, in a normal draft I would think he was worth a 2nd round pick. But in this draft, I dont think Gunston is worth more than a pick in the mid-late teens at absolute best, and maybe as Dasher suggested, package that up with an upgraded 2nd round pick. He was pick 29 a couple of drafts ago, and whilst he certainly hasnt gone backwards, he hasnt rocketed up the charts either. I guess it all comes down to market value and that will come down to what other clubs are prepared to pay for Gunston.

Normally its a buyers market when an out of contract player wants to leave........just ask Carlton and Collingwood. I would have no problem if the Hawthorn recruiting manager walked away if the price was to high.

Roughead still has a long recovery ahead of him and will be very hesitant to jump straight back into footy, my guess is he'll be back mid-late next year. Until then Franklin only has Hale who pinch hits ruck. This makes Gunston the best foil availiable for the hawks.

I think GWS might be more intersted in Breust then Renouf.
I hope Hawthorn can get us a good 1st round pick from GWS if their the 3rd club involved in this trade.

I'll give you the hot tip.......Gunston is def not worth a top 10 pick.
You might have to exchange 2nd round picks as Dasher suggested if the first round pick happens to be in the top 10 or 12.

I never said gun$ton was worth a top 10 pick so get your facts right. GWS have picks 11, 13 and 15 in round one in the ND .

If you bother to check the AFL website you will see that GWS first round draft picks are 1,3,5,7,9,11 and 13.......pretty much all in the top dozen. So if you are hopeful of Hawthorn trading a player to GWS for a first round pick then I guess it will be for a pick in the top dozen......so perhaps it is you that need to get your FACTS right.
