Eh, all I want is goals. At 21 Gunston has a better rate, generally playing on the flank very high up. While not unselfish on field with the ball, I do wish he did more pressure and one percent type stuff. Westhoff isn't going to get any better, but right now he's all round better than Gunston. It's also clear that Gunston doesn't have to improve much to top him. Lot of Port people around here, lol.

Wow. Just wow. Now Westhoff by well how long is a piece of string.

By careers end I would guess Gunston would have had a better career. Westhoff in past years has the ability of going lost in games. Although if this season is saying anything that may have past. Still 4 games is nothing, lets revisited after round 11.

The thing with Gunston is he is very timid. He is a lead up player only and from the outside looking in he doesn't seem like a player who likes any sort of physical contact in a contest.

Westhoff has genuine overhead contested marking ability which sets him apart from Gunston.

You'd have to say Westhoff right now but it's a fairly silly poll

One player is 5 years older than the other and both play different roles. I do think some people are being harsh on Gunston however, he's competing with Franklin and Roughead for a spot at the moment.
Or hes getting cheap goals because all the defensive focus is on these two players?
If he had to play as a 2nd forward instead of a 3rd he wouldnt kick as many goals. Your theory lacks logic.

Well my 'theory' may not coincide with your logic but it does fit in with evidence.

Gunston last year averaged about 2 goals a game. When Franklin went out for 6 weeks and Gunston became essentially the number one key target he aeraged about 3.5 goals a game. Now we are cramming our forwardline with another tall and he is caught playing a loose flanker/wingman and kicking less goals as a result. For example, on the weekend Gunston's stats were 18 touches, 7 marks, 3 score assists and a goal. Stats indicative of a flanker type.

But I suppose this is all one big coincidence

Easy poll based on this year to date. Westhoff by a long way.

Gunston has been poor this year, his last game was probably his best and he isn't really playing a predominant forward role at the moment. Seems to be put where ever he's needed and asked to play that role. I think the coaching staff are using this year for him as a way of learning different roles up the field.

Westhoff has had a great year to date, he looks like he has found a new lease on life under the new coach and administration and whilst he always had the abilities he has shown, he's found confidence in himself and this has really led to his games to date really clicking and everything working for him. Hopefully he can continue in this form as he is good to watch.

The average margin over the weeks Franklin was out was 9 goals to the Hawks. He was good but it was in a pretty dominant team.

Yes but Hawthorn were dominant throughout most of the season. On average Hawthorn scored 43 points more than their opposition, just a tick under nine goals. So Jack's output spiked considerably when he became the number one target, in a side of similar vein to that of the rest of the season and he did score four goals in our only loss in that time.

I'm not saying he was phenomenal, just that he has thrived as a key target rather than wilted as the previous poster said. It's pretty obvious at this stage that his goal output goes up the deeper he plays and the more often he is targeted. Pretty logical really.

Gunners is starting to fit into his new role as a high half-forward/wingman, providing a lead up marking option for our defenders. Has been great the last 5 rounds and will get better as the year goes on.

Would take Gunston 10 times over Westhoff now and in the future. Just starting to hit form this season and he is a lot younger. Westhoff is beginning to drop off. Easy decision

Gunston has kicked 11.2 for the season and the last three weeks has kicked 3,3,3. Westhoff is nearing 27, Gunston is 21. I think we all know who the better will end up being in the long run. One day Gunston will be our full forward.
