Jack Gunston or Justin Westhoff

I think the only reason I visit the polls thread is to see threads like this. Westhoff is handy though.

Gunston's not too bad himself, could get to Westy's level someday

I rate Westhoff highly. He had an outstanding season for Port Adelaide and was one of the reasons as to why Port Adelaide played off in the finals. His career did stagnate a little for a few years, but he re-discovered his best form again this season switching between forward, pinch hitting in the ruck and at times played a loose man in defense. No doubting Westhoff potential and given he's only 27, he should maintain this sort of output for at least another three-four year's.

Westy is a gun who can play multiple positions. From the times I have watched him he is a good decision maker and a good kick, has a bit of pace for his height and can take a hanger.

Funny, he has been known to play on the wing and even be found in defence regularly throughout the season.

They are extremely different players. Gunston is a sharp shooter, a very good one. Justin is probably the truest Utility in the game ATM

He has been basically shithouse and a bit of a joke until this year.

He is a late bloomer the Dictator. Also still seems to go missing against the big teams.

Having said that I reckon Westhoff is playing career best footy and is in his prime and edges gunston overall right now.

However I would "take" gunston cause he is already a better kick and is already close to westhoff overall and yet is five years younger.

I reckon gunston will be alot better player and give longer service over the journey.

gunston had a great final series but he was 3rd in the pecking order.. ie roughhead got mcpharlin, franklin got johnson which left gunston on dawson (gift)... next year he will get the better defenders

westhoff is already gets the no.1 defender and still has maintained a high level

Pushing up to the wing is vastly different to playing everywhere

Gunston is currently predominantly a stay at home forward, which is pretty clearly where he belongs. Westhoff is very much a genuine Utility.

If you actually believe what you've written there about Westhoff I question how much you've seen of him over the journey. Inconsistent at times, yes, but his output has always been good overall.

I have seen him alot and he has always failed to deliver on his potential.
This year he starred.
He has played very similar spots to gunston however I reckon WEsty took a few turns in the ruck at times.

I cant agree he has always been good. The fortunes of the club may well have played a role in this as well. Hard when your a key fwd and the ball never comes down there and when it does its not delivered well.

I just reckon Gunston looks pretty amazing for 21.
I believe he can have several seasons like the one westhoff has just had.
I do believe he will go past westy.

Strange because he was dominating in 2007, his debut year. Kicked something like 35 goals in 10 games.

He doesn't. Teams would be mad to put their main defender on a guy who spends most of his time away from the forward line.
