One doesn't have to do with the other. You don't push out your best players in a position you have no depth just for a draft pick.

Farrell, Logan Evans, Jase Burgoyne, Sinn, likely one of Cumming/Perryman. Think Port are fine at HB. They may not be "driving" the Houston move per se, but it's definitely an opportunity to improve the overall balance of their list.

They have a knack for knowing when a bloke has peaked and pushing him out when he still has value.
That would make sense if
a) Port were pushing Houston out
b) He wasn't a two time AA in a position they have no depth

People always point to the Wingard trade, but the sum of that was effectively Wingard for Burton (average at best and borderline best 22) and Duursma (no longer at club, but turned into another average player in BZT).

Where I'm jealous of them is their ability to push out established players, which sets them up to either move up the draft or go after players.

They've done it with Wingard, Polec, Ryder, Howard, Duursma and now Houston.

Ryder was the only one who really hurt them - moving him on arguably cost them the 2020 flag.

Letting Doedee go was probably the only time in recent memory we've done this.
Greenwood and Keath

No depth? They've got farrell, DBJ could push rozee back, they've got plenty

Why do you think they are chasing Perryman and now Cumming? ready made replacements for him so that they CAN go to this draft. They know its strong and they want in
Of course they want in, all clubs do. It sounds like Perryman wants to play midfield though (and Collingwood may beat them to him), that doesn't help them replace Houston.

What if they lose Houston and replace him with neither Perryman or Cumming?

Yep, agreed. Maybe we would of got some reasnoble draft picks for guys like Laird and Smith a few years back. Before anyone says we needed the experience, we have missed the finals for 7 years, our older guys aren't the experience we need.

You can't build a good list without cutting a few players who other clubs want.

He does, but they have always been chasing this one given the Crows strong interest for longer. Also not sure how they were offering such a huge contract to Perryman but didn't realise he wanted to play midfield.
Wasn't getting mid minutes at GWS or Port either way, so would've been considering the larger money offer out of the two. Now Coll's come charging in with midfield opportunity

Charlie Dixon was an AA forward too..... 4 years ago in a COVID season.
Covid is irrelevant, people may not agree with him being AA, but he was clearly in the top % of his position.
DBJ is not banged up and is 5 years younger than Dixon.

Remember when Ryan Burton was a sensational backman for Hawthorn? Remember when Port requested him in a trade and he was reluctant to leave the Hawks? Remember his career at the Pear?

I’m hoping for a similar scenario :p
Guy wants to become a pro golfer, be interesting to see how that one plays our if he's in the 2's again next year.
