Why is a triple premiership winning coach getting rid of him at the first available opportunity then?

When we hoped he would come to the crows NOBODY was suggesting a KPF. It was third tall at best or more likely “connector” hff or wing. True KPF have the strength, weight or size - like The Fog. Like Tex. like TT. Luko is so not that player

They've got four tall forwards. King, Lukosius, Andrew, Walter. Which one are you trading? Because it makes no sense to keep all four.

Crows fans didn't see him as a KPF because we've already got Fogarty and Thilthorpe so we're thinking about where he might play in our side

No he didn't. The Suns played Casboult, Chol and King as they Key Forwards in 2023.

Chol played 8 games

Yep agreed. Ultimate whipping boy on massive coin. See the Power forum and their takedown of already soft players in their team - Captain Courageos, BZT, Burgoyne (before the semi). Power fans hate soft players
Yeah, they were pretty vicious towards Rozee during the finals. Marshall has copped it a lot in the past too.

There's more bed wetting in here than in the Will Port win the GF thread. I watch a lot of Suns and Lions games living in Brisbane. Luko has never excited me as a player watching him live. Rankine was always the one I wanted the Crows to get, ever since he debuted, even with his injury issues he had. I am not disappointed at all Luko has chosen Port. Let's just see how he goes in the first Showdown.

thing thats been forgotten is luko wants to stay

this is not his ideal just his preferred option out of whats left. so very different midset to most wanting to get home urgently....

King is the “Gorilla” so need him. Walter as highly touted in terms of draft position and a local boy so he is a keeper. Andrew is primarily a defender. Said so himself as late as last night at the Brownlow in terms of where he would be playing next year and what’s his best position so count him out as a forward (2 games in total in his AFL career up forward).

So Luko becomes the third - and needed - tall and triple flag winning coach still wants him gone. Why?

Do you really believe Gold Coast just handed Andrew a 9 year contract on huge money to play as a defender?

Agreed. Said the same thing before we got Rankine. He was the real prize.

Love to review both of their respective careers in 8-10 years time to see who was the best player. I would put lots of $$ on Izak assuming injuries are kind to both players

No idea, don’t think they have said. I agree he is an amazing athlete and could play any KP or ruck even

Lots of KPD are going for best part of 1m (McKay and Battle even close to 900k) and Saints reportedly offering Weitering 1.5m x 8 years as a FA

They've also got Ethan Read, who was a top ten pick last year.

They've also got Ethan Read, who was a top ten pick last year.

Ethan Read (matching Geelong's bid)

POS: Ruckman
Ht 202cm, Wt 92kg, DOB 7/7/05
From Gold Coast Academy/Palm Beach/Allies

Gold Coast will add to its ruck stocks with a hugely exciting talent in Read. The 202cm prospect was named the All-Australian ruckman after a great carnival with the Allies, with his athleticism, movement, run and skills shining for a player his size. He can take a mark and kick a goal and his mobility and endurance is top end (he came third overall in the 2km time trial at the Combine).

If not him? Read will be the second Suns Academy product to have his name called and it could come as early as the Cats but then in the following handful of selections afterwards. The Suns are ready to match it.

Perhaps he does play KPF also. I genuinely don’t know

If you compare Luko to Rankine during their time at the Suns, Luko has been a lot better

Rankine became a star since arriving at us, there's a chance Luko will improve as well, as a lot of players do leaving Gold Coast

I'll be pretty annoyed if Port pay less for a contracted Luko with better exposed form than we did for Rankine
Well port won't be coughing up pick 5 so be prepared to be annoyed 😄

Hang on….you mention Chol with only 8 but fail to then acknowledge 201 cm Casboult played 20 games as a KPF and 202 cm King played 20 or more also. Both these guys played as key forwards.

Are you suggesting Luko was the 1st or 2nd KPF and one of these guys was the third tall? Doesnt sound likely IMO

That's what I'm suggesting. He played a similar role to Tex, getting up the field then roaming back and kicking goals

Covid is irrelevant, people may not agree with him being AA, but he was clearly in the top % of his position.
DBJ is not banged up and is 5 years younger than Dixon.
Yeah, massive H&A fixture advantage doesn't improve player performance for the entire season especially during such an interrupted season. You need to take me out of ignore to acquire more basic football knowledge.

You forgot Read. King, Walter, Read is Suns long-term KPF trio.

I don't think there is any expectation that Port will pay more than we did for Rankine.

But on face value, Lukosius is worth more based on exposed form than Rankine was at the time we traded for him. And this value should increase because he's contracted. You could even make a case that his position further increases his value (tall forward vs small forward).

I think Crows fans should be annoyed if Gold Coast hand over a contracted, more experienced player to Port for less than we paid for Rankine. It would certainly annoy me if they accept less because it's a salary dump while bleeding us dry for Rankine, where yet again Gold Coast's poor list management benefits everyone but us.
Like I said, both ITK poster here and on the GCS forum has mentioned Rankine wanted fair compensation otherwise he would have 100% stayed at GCS. They were certain we would give pick 5.

I don't know why people are suggesting Lukosius can't play as a key position forward, when he did in 2023 for Gold Coast and finished with 39 goals (1 goal behind Ben King) in a side that finished 15th
Reminds me very much of Tom McDonald year as a fwd... then ended up back to def as couldn't cut it. If we got Luko very much would have wanted him on the wing or the HBF
