Goal scoring midfielder, that's what we need at sanfl level. Hope he takes his chance.

Racked up some decent stats at VFL level this year, had a 38 possession game against Collingwood.

VFL North Skipper Jack Watkins to be given a train on spot during pre-season supplemental selection period auditioning for a rookie spot

This is why the SANFL has been such an issue for us. VFL teams have been topping up with these sorts of players for years, but we're only finally just being able to top up with such quality. It will help our squad dramatically with the extra competitiveness they bring and the support their talent provides to allow our kids room to grow.

Sorry mate, but who’s Watkins ?

Watkins played for North in the VFL and is going to be playing for the Magpies next season with the potential of getting on Port's list in the mid-year draft. He's also really good mates with Zak Butters.

Will he stay if he doesn't get the SSP spot though?

Could be another opportunity mid season I guess.

Yes, according to the news article he has committed to playing with the Magpies in 2025.

We have 37 players and one Cat B rookie (Moss). Assuming Barrett makes it to the Cat B rookie list, doesn't that mean we have 7 list spots to get to the max 44 players (+ cat B rookies)?

If so, we use 4 draft picks, 2 x father/sons as rookies and still have a spot available. There is also the possibility of putting someone on the LTI list to make room for Watkins in the MSD. If Marshall has another concussion in the first half of 2025, he would likely go on the LTI list.

42 has been the max size since Covid. + Cat bs

Then if there is a long term injury or two or more mid season, they can be replaced by a mid season draft player.

Think they are all given rookie status, but list size before Cat B, can end up being 43 or 44 for most sides by season's end.

Brisbane got to 46 because they had 5 season ending knee injuries before the mid season draft came around, ie Coleman, Doedee, McCarthy, Gardiner and Lane. And they still won the flag.

Quite right, my bad. Maximum list size is 42 plus 2 cat b rookies. So I’ll try again:

We have 37 + Moss meaning we can add 5 or 5 + Barrett as our second Cat B.

I think we will commit to Rome and Benny. So ideally:

#13, #29, #36, Rome as a rookie. If Benny is a Cat B we have one more spot for a train on player (maybe Watkins) or players like Watkins and McLennan will audition for a MSD spot should we have long term injuries.
