Traded Jaeger O'Meara [traded to Hawthorn for pick 10 and GWS's 2017 2nd rd pick]

As the AFL is still negotiating the new CBA with the AFLPA I suspect it will not want any clubs to not negotiate genuinely for any uncontracted players wanting to be traded to their club of choice. The AFLPA and its members want the free agency qualifying period to be reduced and if clubs start playing "funny buggers" on trades the pressure for this to happen will increase.
This means the AFL and its mediators will try to ensure that trades are done and fair compensation is received.
No doubt ambit claims will be made and the usual argy bargy will take place but ultimately sanity will prevail.
Threats by clubs to force players into the national or pre season draft particularly from the AFL development teams will not happen as the AFL has a vested interest in ensuring fair agreements are reached.
Perhaps Tony Cochrane is not aware that "he who pays the piper.................."
mediators can't do anything other than, well, mediate. So I don't know what you're even trying to say here.

Mediation fails as often as it succeeds?

My comment was the AFL and its mediators. The latter can only mediate but the AFL can bring some pressure to bear if it feels one or more parties in a trade situation is being bloody minded. However most parties will reach agreement because they are more pragmatic than supporters.

that's fair enough :thumbsu:

However, I am quite puzzled by your argument and I'm happy for you to elaborate. But I don't understand why a) why any appeasement by the AFL is needed given both the AFL and the AFLPA are parties are equally involved in the negotiation; b) the AFL would be trying to influence trades as a form of appeasement, which would be an extraordinary and inappropriate move by any assessment; c) why you make assumption that there is any kind of non genuine negotiation occurring, now, in the past, or in the future; d) why or indeed how any of this would cause the AFLPA to try to drive a harder line on any type of negotiation it is involved in, as presumably in the interests of its members it is already driving as hard a bargain as it can; and finally e) how that has any relevance to the PSD, which is a mechanism specifically designed to help assist player movement and therefore would be something the AFLPA would be undoubtedly in favour of?

How do you draw that conclusion, seriously,

Because they are mates ?

Everybody is everyone's mate in the AFL business

I very much doubt he will go in the PSD
I don't think he will go via the PSD either but Young sounds keen to use it as big threat to get him to us for unders. All I can say is that this came from a guy in the industry not involved with Essendon and he reckons what Cochrane said to the media was the tip of the iceberg and that Cochrane and Young had several very heated arguments and Young is keen to get him out of there for bugger all to spite the club. He also mentioned Young is very vindictive and is a not very nice piece of work

I think it should be - any player thats out of contract can leave for nothing. Its only a matter if they are a UFA or RFA and then the club can match. That way the players have a certainty. Clubs would have to keep players always in contract.

All this Essendon talk.....sounds like Wright has asked Dorododoodoororo to repay the favor from last year.

This is honestly what I've been saying is a likely situation, we either bay back the favour or we take O'meara in the PSD. Win/win.

This thread is so funny, it's basically become some big supporter shit fight. Like anything we say on this forum freaking impacts the real draft period

You might be very surprised.

I know for a fact that Graham Wright posts here under the pseudonym UnsociableHawk. Steve Silvagni under Gillo. And Derek Hine under MagpieBrute.

Here is where it is at.

Dodo is the collective Essendon draft thread, no wonder he's so difficult to deal with :drunk:

Thread has slowed down immensely. JOM to ESS via PSD. Tell me why it won't happen

Because I spoke with Jaeger Thursday night and he said no matter which club he ends up at it is his hope the Suns get "fair and reasonable compensation" for his trade. He also said he will make a statement in "due course" which I got the feeling could be a few weeks away.

Just seems to me jom will be going to the hawks, teams like Carlton will probably lurk around in case the trade doesn't seem to be going anywhere, but ultimately it looks like the Hawks. Can't see him ending up at the bombers at all, especially with McKenna.

We have been in talks with his management for a fair while like others. As I have previously mentioned Dodoro and Young are good friends so no surprise that the talk is that Young is pushing him towards us.
And Ray Gunston was on Essendons board yet Jack decided to go to Hawthorn...friendships/relationships off field have zero relevance really

Jack went to Hawthorn because Essendon weren't interested
