Jake Carlisle's Video - Duty to Reveal?

Re the issue, perhaps his manager could have said something, but I think it'll turn out OK for Saints. He's still the same player and worth what they traded for him.

Where this is a vexed issue for Saints now is Carlisle's mindset. He is renown for struggling when unhappy, hence, smashing him too hard on this will damage his output. Going to soft will bring pressure on the club from external and internal Mrs Lovejoy types.

My advice would be to take a welfare approach with Jake and get his mind back on playing.

I think the pressure of taking a massive contract and costing 1st plus 2nd round picks to get him and a late 1st round brings massive pressure. Being the only mature KPD that isn't old will also be tough, especially as a shallow midfield means there will be periods of the game where he's under fire. I fear Saints will add to this pressure wanting to appear tough. Let's hope they make the right choice here.

They do bargain with managers. The managers bargain with clubs, the Clubs are the employers not the AFL. The managers should be making demands for their players through their clubs and then their clubs should be making those demands of the AFL.

The absurd thing about the AFLPA is the clubhouse mentality. The Association fights for the interests of the most in demand players over the players who actually need the AFLPA to maintain a career. The average lifespan of an AFL career has gotten no longer even with the inception of Free Agency (which was brought in to apparently make it easier for players not getting a game) yet the movement of contracted players and young players has risen exponentially.

The AFLPA fought for a larger cut of the 2011 tv rights deal even though the biggest slice of those funds was used to create hundreds of new industry jobs in the creation of two new clubs. and ~90 list spots for new players to fill.

They are an insular and self-preserving entity who have little interest in growing the jobs they claim to represent. Their accomplishments have only benefited the most in demand players rather than the most under-priviledged.

I understand that the players deserve to make demands and requests of the governing body but their employers should be the ones who make those demands for them.

Instead the AFLPA got into a direct dialogue with the AFL and were only granted the demands that would have little impact on the AFL and instead impacted predominantly on the Clubs.

I agree with pretty much everything here (except for the claim in the first par but I cbf arguing with you really).

Only I'll counter that the AFL are equally awfull for a number of reasons and the AFLPA are a necessary evil to stop them running roughshod over the playing group the same way they do over various other interested parties.

That's the thing about smart, rich greedy jerks like the AFL; the only way to really combat them is with other rich, greedy jerks that somewhat nullify them.

What the hell did Essendon do re Lovett?

In any case... Jenkins, Monfries, Ryder, Crameri, Melksham, Giles, Gumby trades seem to have worked ok, to name a few. Or doesn't that suit your troll narrative?

Is there a warranty on Gumby?

Caveat Emptor pal. No one is going to disclose the second hand car you are about to buy has a gearbox that is scheduled to implode around the time the warranty expires.

St Kilda are going to pay him less because of his social media work, if I understand correctly? Essendon offload a player who doesn't want to be there, St Kilda get a discount on a good defender with a defective brain, Jake gets to play footy for a few more years. If he pulls his head right in, he may even get a pay rise at some stage.

Win/win/win.

Stick him in the back line where he belongs, put some support systems around him, and cross your fingers.

Yep I agree, buyer beware, no use St Kilda crying over their purchase of a lemon.

Yeah but in circumstantial cases the Court can draw inferences. He is clearly doing something he shouldn't have been, he wouldn't snap chat himself inhaling Creotine or Ovaltine or whatever the ****eltine

Yes agreed, but with a good lawyer can it be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, I don't worry if I was on the jury I'd be saying it was Charlie. Also did you know it is not illegal to have illegal drugs in your system unless you are driving? It is only illegal to be in possession.

These are narcotics, just produced in a lab. Distribution of these products to people without a prescription is just as illegal as heroin.

"Narcotics" doesn't mean what you think it means.

There are 2 meanings:

Firstly, the medical meaning. Narcotic analgesics. Drugs that make you sleepy.
Secondly, the legal meaning, which simply means illicit drugs.

Dexamphetamine and Ritalin are neither. They are not illegal, and they don't make you sleepy. Distribution of them might be illegal, but possession or consumption of them is not.

Rule #1 - NEVER trade with Essendon ... Saints should have learnt that after Andrew Lovett
... it is clear to all this club has no ethical standards ... thoroughly deserve what they are about to get from WADA
Hay,didn't your club off load a player who they knew to be suffering depression to North and not tell them ?
Ironic as the President back then is now head of Beyond Blue

and what did Essendon do wrong with the Lovett trade ?
His incident occurred when he was a StKilda player

They are illicit if sold without a prescription.

However, I had never thought of the root meaning of Narcotics. It's obvious now you mentioned it. I'm going to struggle not being irritated with the title when watching season 2 of Narcos now.

Unions are a vital part of any industry, to prevent dodgy people in powerful organisations (like the AFL) from screwing over their workforce for their own gain.

Sadly like a lot of unions it looks like there are people involved in the AFLPA just as dodgy willing to ironically and hypocritically screw over organisations for their own gain.

Then they both take shot at each other for being untrustworthy ad infinitim.

But you couldn't ban them, for all the shit they give the good things they do serve an imperative purpose.

No good guys or bad guys, just jerks after more money at the expense of people who are not them.

It's the ciiiiiircle of liiiiife

Agree with all of that. The AFLPA need to be concerned with the system, and that players are treated according to the system. That and their after football life.
They shouldn't be involved in contracts, making contracts, setting agendas, setting the laws of the game. The AFLPA is a terrible thing to happen to football with how they are running right now

Nothing, but don't let the truth get in the way of saint fans fantasies.
