Hird's speech was ok, they would have been dejected and he would have felt like he let people down by not being able to play up to his standards and he did congratulate the Lions in his speech. Hird was a bloody good big game player as far as I recall.
Reckon it's unfair to go him for the speech.
As for the memorabilia, good luck to him and by the sounds of it the medal has had quite a successful post-footy career in the rapidly growing field of anal insertions, so it was the right decision to put it up for sale.

Let’s be fair, it’s a shitty piece of memorabilia. If it was his Brownlow or Norm Smith I’d be happy to bet it’s attract good interest. Think it’s more about the piece than him - you’d struggle to shift these things no matter whose they were. He did well to sell it last year.
