Should James Hird be given a second chance at coaching an AFL club?

There is no mitigation here - he cannot seperate himself from the most blatant cheating exercise since the Csrlton ‘brown paper bag’.

Regardless of his ALLEGED legendary status...he was duplicitous, refused to accept responsibility, duped, and reckless.

The fact that he’s now an emotional flake simply means the AFL owe him a duty of care NOT to allow him to take a senior role.

Pretty sure to this day Carlton throw staffs lunch in the bin if they bring it in a brown paper bag, repeated breaches lead to being sacked. ;)

Director of Coaching: Thompson
Senior Assistant: McVeigh

Harvey is already there behind the scenes.

Tania Hird - Inhouse Legal Counsel

Lloyd doesn't seem to want a bar of this so they wont be getting him as a forward coach or goal kicking coach (then again $$$ talks)

I would not often put Matthew Lloyd and sense in the same sentence, however out of Essendons big supporters he seems to have a good head on his shoulders about this.

They were civil charges.

Not criminal charges even though papers may have reported it as such.

Do i really need to go Legal Studies in here?

Hope you don't mind, but I thought I would assist you with your kind offer "to go Legal Studies in here"

The link to WorkSafe and the court system webpage discusses how WorkSafe will investigate, review the evidence and may file criminal charges against the accused. All WorkSafe prosecutions begin in the Magistrates' Court. Some less serious offences, are called summary offences, and they are heard and decided in the Magistrates' Court by a magistrate sitting alone. Some charges are more serious. These are called indictable offences.

The Magistrates Court of Victoria hears two types of criminal offences – summary offences and indictable offences. The link to their criminal offences summary offences page discusses a "mention hearing". This is for those who plead GULITY, and a Contest Hearing for those who wish to plead not guilty and effectively contest the charge! The Magistrates Court Pleading guilty or not guilty page discusses how if you plead guilty to a charge, it means you admit breaking the law and committing that offence.

But wait there's more!!

If you go back to the Worksafe Prosecution Result Summaries page and search for a certain football club, you get the following

"The club pleaded guilty to both charges and was convicted and fined $50 000 on the first and convicted and fined $150 000 on the second. The court considered general deterrence and public denunciation as important to the consideration of the penalty. (Before his Honour Magistrate Reardon in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court.)"

As per LoungeLizard post, Essendon's Lawyers asked for non conviction and were told no, resulting in a criminal conviction, of which they didn't appeal?

Hope this helps???

Id be all for Hird to come back just to see the offended of so many idiots bemoaning the sheer existence of Essendon let alone the great man at the helm once again.

I can taste the sweet salty tears from 90% of Bigfoot already

That right there is the definition of cutting your nose to spite your face

This sounds vaguely familiar. Like the folks who voted for Donald Tramp to "own the libs" despite knowing it would be against their best interest. Very interesting (stupid) way of living your life.

If Essendon appointed Hird again, it would confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt what an absolute basket case that club has become.

Just when the club was finally getting some distance and fresh air between it and the drugs scandal, bringing Hird back would ensure that the issue never goes away for his entire tenure. The connection is too strong.

I can't believe Essendon fans aren't protesting outside Tullamarine against even the possibility of this move.
