he hasn't got the job yet, but he has just about got it all wrapped up. it wanted him to coach the club in the future and when he was ready. i believe as someone else has said, the club might go with him to get back those disgruntled fans after the debacle with knights. good luck jimmy, you are going to need it

you signature is just so apt for the opinions of yourself and opposition supporters in this thread :D

Time will tell, indeed.
My opinion isn't much different to quite a lot of Essendon supporters who are questioning if Hird is the right man for the job.

Plenty of people thought Knights wasn't the right decision at the time, yet any opposition supporters who voiced that opinion on here were called 'trolls' then, as well.

You're correct, but as it stands you're neither threatening or hated.
I think I could find supporters of a few teams who still hate us.
The Hird appointment is a ridiculous ploy by your board to get supporters onside after the Knights debacle.
Risky yes - ridiculous - only time will tell. You seem fairly certain a coach will fail before they even have the job. That to me is ridiculous.

Knights didn't have enough top line experience and Hird has even less. Just ludicrous.
Knights didn't have the right gameplan - and the parts he was supposed to implement this year he failed miserably.

Don't have to rate our list - but it is not as bad as our reults reflect - Knights lost the players mid-season - and with that his job.

I think it's great for Essendon to have a favourite son come back to Coach.

Be interesting to see how he goes over the next few years. Personally, would of liked to have seen him be assistant coach somewhere else for a year or two, but that's just me. If he can have Williams/Laidley around him, no reason he can't succeed.

Why are there Hawthorn trolls masquerading as moderators on this board?
Harden up.

I'm entitled to an opinion on this board, just like anyone else, even if it's not polishing the shoes of your great white hope.

So sick of this myth.
Leigh Matthews, Malcolm Blight and Ron Barassi coached all right.

Paul Roos didn't spend much time as an assistant and he went pretty good as a player I would have thought.

What about all those long serving assistants who have failed as coaches - Knights, Frawley, Schwab, Connolly - the list goes on and on.

How funny. Another using coaches from another era to boost their argument. How desperate!!!! Throw in Jock McHale while you're at it.

Not everyone is guaranteed to make it, including long time assistants, but Shaw, Voss, Watson tell you that untried one's tend to struggle. You have Choco and Laidley applying. Surely Essendon's not going to make them assistants to an untried coach when they just could've hired one of them outright for the senior job. Seems they are....lol!!!!! Essendon go from one disaster to another with this group in power.

I really enjoy watching people rationalise to make their point. It's good for a real laugh.

This is a big surprise if you ask me. I thought the wisest move would've been to put Hird on the coaching payroll, and let a Chris Scott or whoever take charge. But to give Hird the highest stool straight off the bat. - Massive call! I'd be feeling gun-shy if I was at Essendon. Sure it's romantic on paper, but without the experience behind him they risk creating a Voss 2.0

He'll certainly sell a lot of memberships and off field its a good decision to round the supporters back on side. I guess we'll find out whether he can coach or not. Hope he does better than the Voss experiment has to day.

I was really hoping for Chocco but it seems the club is more interested in appeasing disgruntled members and getting some of that Obama-style "hope" around the club.
Funny you say that:
