No… you guys played to the advantage you had in that you could lowball and go to the PSD.
It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out this time.
Not sure there will be any animosity as the 2 clubs undertook a pick swap last year that worked well. Honestly, pick 26 straight up in this draft which is strong I would be fine with.

We offered either a 2nd or 3rd rounder (can't recall which) - which was generous for an average player like Hately.

You got greedy, so we took him through the PSD.

Hopefully you have learnt your lesson with Peatling.

lol… “learnt your lesson” is the language of a patronising arrogant flog.

He was a first round pick - big bodied mid - who had progressed well under our system… played 13 games in a stacked side across his first two years… we wanted to keep him… you guys obviously liked him enough to recruit him… and he went backwards in your system. To offer a third rounder in that scenario was not on par with the other deals we had done in almost identical situations with clubs who traded in good faith… think Caldwell… played about 10 games across his first two years… we received two second rounders I believe.

Just because a player was drafted as a 1st rounder does not mean they are worth a 1st rounder years later when traded. You are delusional if you think Hatey was of significant value as was nothing but an average player.

By your theory, we can offer a 5th round pick for Peatling as he was taken in the PSD... when we all know he is now valued about our 2nd round pick.

You didn’t read part of my response clearly…

Given Hately never remotely looked like a best 22 player when he was at the Crows and eventually got delisted as a result you would say a third rounder was fair, and GWS should have just accepted it.

Still the old points system so most picks being used will be 30+
The only reason picks get pushed out are FA compo picks of which GWS have had two added in and pushed 25 out slightly more.

The notion that they get pushed out on NGA and FS is utter crap and always has been. The clubs who the player is not aligned to one way or another on don’t usually end up with said player so in the open pool there is still access to the X numbered player at any said pick. And as mentioned clubs will often use picks 27, 38 and 42 to get what they need which in turn brings picks in that no one ever speaks of.

FA compo needs to be scraped because it’s not actually FA if clubs are getting something for it. But the new system may help FS and NGA bidding

Sorry, I thought you were saying that the picks would come back in because picks between them get eaten up.
