My biggest concern is the Cats coming hard for Worps.

Not only is he a local boy but yes exactly the kind of hard nosed bulk at a gate midfielder they need.

But as previously said he loves it at the Hawks and he has a great relationship with Mitchell.

Will all depends what type of offers get thrown his way though as this is the contract that will set him up for the rest of his life.

Geelong went after him last time and he wasn't interested. I wouldn't be worried if I was you.

Potential syndesmosis injury?

Awaiting scans.

Some posters suggesting it's minor, others suggesting possibly a long stint on the sidelines.

Guess we'll find out soon enough.

He's been in ripping form in the preseason and was close to our best on last night in the first half. Shouldered the grunt work and allowed Newcombe and Day to run riot in the forward half.

Sam has made him the player he is and I think he values that. This is similar to Nash last year, and he just wants more years on his contract than has been initially offered.

I agree on that. I don't think he wants to leave he just wants 5 years which he will get and will stay (even though he's not worth 5 imo).

Can i ask why you think no-one will come hard at him?

unless we have a different definition of "hard", hard is reported finn callahan or tom dekoning offers. worpel is not a difference maker, he will 100% get offers elsewhere but I dont think he leave because of money as I doubt there be offers that will blow what hawthorn prepare to pay him.

Out for only 3-4 weeks is a semi decent result considering the worst

Could he be one that the Hawks lose to a big money deal?

They have the coverage for him and you would think they need to adjust their expected salaries for Mass and Meek who have exploded and will need big pay raises. Add in a potential chase for Oscar Allen.

Have it good authority he’s not going anywhere.

Do you think there will be a squeeze somewhere eventually? You dont have any big contracts coming off anytime soon right? I doubt Gunston/Bruest are breaking the bank.
Calsher dear is one who will demand a big increase compared to his base draft contract that expires at years end

going to make a thread on him soon

Clubs probably coming knocking on the doors of those at Box Hill like Hustwaite.

Please do.

Don't want to lose him.

Not sure we have any breaking the bank, sounds like Sicily is our biggest contract. Guys like Day and Newc on good but not huge money. Outside of that I still think a huge chunk of our 22 is on cheaper deals from before they too a big leap.

i think if we lose some around the fringes it’s more likely to be the guys who can’t quite crack a best 22 spot at the moment. In another 2-3 years when all the younger talent starts looking for long term deals it might be a bit different.
