If this board is an "echo chamber" it's because so many right wing viewpoints are shot down by facts, truth and logic. Right wingers who can support their position with facts, truth and logic are in short supply on the anonymous internet sadly.

People aren't "losing their minds" over Dutton and Trump, they are giving copious examples of why they are a really, really bad choice.

Tip: "Calling out" anyone is a waste of energy.
No it’s an echo chamber because it’s a leftist site , the funny thing is you and your mates views don’t reflect society and the way the real folk think this is world wide not just Australia.

Gee, fancy a media organisation having the temerity to report on a planned protest of approx 30k people that will disrupt the CBD and potentially the Australian Open Men’s Tennis final.

Some of you have a strange idea on what a newspaper is supposed to do.

But the AO Men’s final and a decent sized invasion day rally in the CBD have both been a thing on the 26th for about 7-8 years now. They’ve managed to co-exist without disrupting each other.

You say the rally will disrupt the tennis final despite it not happening in the years the two have co-existed. The rally is at midday of the day and in the CBD, whereas the final is after 6pm and over at RLA which isn’t in the CBD.

This is solely the Herald Sun trying to stir up sh*t.

Yes and if all that newspaper did was report, you'd actually have a point.

C’mon mate even you have to admit the average person isn’t getting decked out in flag gear and “celebrating” Australia on the 26th, they’re doing normal day off things.

Or as Warren Mundine called them today “disgusting human beings” and wants a “anti Australian tax” on any venue that refuses to “celebrate Australia”:

So the party of “lower taxes” is now suggesting more taxes eh?

So this is a copy of the non paywalled bit of the article:

Melbourne CBD traders warned to brace for 30,000 strong Australia Day protest

City traders have been warned to brace for more than 30,000 protesters taking over the CBD on Australia Day in a planned action that has been slammed as “hateful” and damaging to the city’s international reputation.

Again the rally has taken place for the last 7-8 years without destroying trade in the CBD and shop keepers have survived. I’m not sure who slammed it as “hateful” but it would be one of the usual suspects.

Again the Herald Sun trying to fearmonger about something that has happened for the last 7-8 years.

The Voice failure has really emboldened these bastards. Not content with failing miserably at Closing the Gap while they were in government they now want to wind back the reconciliation process if they get back in. It being Australia though most of the outrage seems to be directed at those suggesting this might be a touch racist.

If there was no protest, there would be no newspaper article.

Additionally this year, the Aust Day protestors will be joined by pro Palestine protesters. This raises the temperature of the protests and adds more uncertainty as to what may or may not happen.

It is genuine news. The impacts are going to be felt by a number of Victorian citizens and potentially Australia given the AO final is televised worldwide.

That is not what the traders are saying. If you think there is no negative impact to the innocent shop keepers then you are living in Dreamland. Not everyone is a public servant or uni student.

What would you do about this?

If you were following the news you would have known that happened last year too and there was no violence.

Have you been to a rally? It’s peaceful, non disruptive and stays well away from the tennis. They aren’t going to be marching across centre court at 7pm despite what the Herald Sun would have you believe.

Rallies happen all the time. Remember the anti vax ones? I didn’t agree with them but they have a right to protest, and I don’t remember the Herald Sun telling us to be worried about those cookers disrupting shop owners in the CBD. In fact their columnist were openly supporting the cookers.

Now have a think why they’ve changed the tune on invasion day protesters.

Have you just made this up?

"these bigots who hate Australia"

I think Warren Mundine is losing his marbles.

And denouncing those not deemed to be celebrating hard enough

I agree that generally the burden falls to those wanting change to put up a good reason for it, otherwise if we were to constantly have to justify the current state of everything there'd never be an end to it.
In the long run it selling something. In this case change. People are naturally resistant to said change.

You need the right campaign and the right salesman to do it.
None of which exists in the change camp.

A Paul Keating like leader would have made the case by now. Whilst yes I do agree there’s no leader on the change side that can rally the public around a new date that doesn’t mean people are just becoming really pro Jan 26 all of a sudden.

The more the debate rages the more people tune out.

What or who are you referring to?

"Let's stick it up these bigots who hate Australia”

Direct quote from Warren Mundine in the above linked Sky article talking about pubs that chose not to “celebrate Australia”.

I should add this was from today, it’s not referring to pubs banning celebrations, it’s referring to pubs that have made the free choice to not observe Australia Day on Jan 26. Apparently they “hate Australia” according to Warren

How's that schtick working out for him? A casual Senate vacancy would seem to be the only path left open for him now if he wants to sit in Parliament.

It's a crap flag.

Remember when Justin Langer retired? There was a photo of him in the rooms after his final Test, wrapped in a flag and having a beer with the rest of the team. And the way the flag was draped over him, all you could see was the Union Jack.

It's a crap flag.
Big ****ing deal. The Union Jack represents a quarter of the flag. Langer should have been more careful in how he draped it around him. Joke!!!!

Yes it is a crap flag but it is still our official flag. Until that officially changes we have to live with it

There are so many things that are crappy. The national anthem. Excise on beer. Luxury tax on imported cars (no longer needed because Australia no longer makes cars). The Adelaide FC song. Preferential voting. Trade Union corruption. Planning laws. Bail laws...

And you focus on the flag?

Big ****ing deal. The Union Jack represents a quarter of the flag.

That’s is a big deal. That’s the main problem with the flag is it is occupied by another nation’s flag.

And to give you a lesson on flag design any symbol in the canton (top left corner) is a symbol of dominance and power over the rest of the flag. This is because a flag in zero wind will hand from a flagpole with the top left corner above the rest of the flag, so the British used the Union Jack in the canton of the flag of all their colonies to say “hey guys don’t forget WE are the ones really in charge”.

It’s a disgusting thing to have in 2025

Yes it is a crap flag but it is still our official flag. Until that officially changes we have to live with it

No we don’t. We can simply chose to not wave it and not care about it. Or we can burn it or desecrate it, use it to wipe our bum if we choose and that’s all legal.
