Sunday arvo down the pub having a punt then sit back and enjoy the show.

A few country towns will fire off a few bangers and people will go along because kids like seeing things go bang but it's hardly an endorsement of Australian patriotism. They'll watch NYE fireworks too, doesn't mean they are proud of the Julian calendar.

The Perth SkyWorks used to attract more than 300,000, over the last few years that's down to about 60,000

They don't care much about Australia Day itself, but they are sick to death of being told what they should think by a vocal left minority about a continuous stream of topics, therefore are at the point where they will do the opposite regardless of if they actually don't care that much about the day changing.

It's an incumbent government problem in a time of economic hardship. The UK massively shifted left because they were sick of the Tories.

I've never heard anyone say they're "sick to death" of "not being allowed to celebrate Australia" except for a couple of right wingers at work, who usually go quiet when challenged. The rest carry on as usual. No one has bothered to take advantage of the "silent majority" and restart Australia day BBQs and parties again, which would be the case if people were "sick of the vocal left".

I don't care about IPA sponsored polls. If I walk around and see heaps of Australian flags being waved on the day by people who aren't ordinarily nationalists then I'll accept a change in vibe. Until then I contend no one gives a sh*t

Well if people were organising an event for the day I'd be asking people if they would come about 2 weeks out. So about now.

By comparison everyone usually has their Xmas plans figured out a month before. And everyone has a Xmas plan.

I don’t know a single person that actually celebrates Australia Day and I’d say I have a wide social circle including many that you would consider right-wing.

No one does anything on the actual day. People love the long weekend and will head away or do something else because they get a day off.

I’d agree. 5 years ago even Jeff Kennett was supporting a change to the day to Jan 1st to better reflect the actual beginning of the country, but now he’s fallen back in with the “changing Aus day is wokeness” crowd.

That’s my main issue with the day too. I’ll leave the concerns of indigenous people to them as I’m not indigenous and won’t try to speak for them.

But from a non indigenous perspective it’s beyond ridiculous we “celebrate” the day British ships carrying British sailors and British convicts planted a British flag to form a British colony as “Australia” day.

The word “Australia” was only first used to describe the continent about 10 years after the so called “Australia” day!

I’m not British, I want nothing to do with that miserable failed state and their inbred pedo protecting monarchy. Why am I told I need to go wave a little “Union Jack at night” flag to prove my patriotism?
