250000 years????? Hahaha

It's at least 50,000 years. This means Aboriginal history is one of the oldest continuous histories on the planet. How cool is that right?

As an Australian (note, not British) I'm bloody proud to say I come from a place with this absolutely epic human history right at my doorstep.

Meanwhile, the British rocked up less than 250 years ago. Why would I care about celebrating relatively recent British history at the expense of this insanely cool Australian history that's actually from where I live?

Its funny how you take one misquote from an indigenous leader and then use it to mock the history of an entire race.

Could say the same about those “Aussie patriots” who are love Australia so much they claim they know everything about Australian history, much more than the “dumb lefties”:

Guarantee most of the people demanding the day be sacred and never changed would also tell you it's the day the first fleet arrived.

I wasn't relying on Sky News, I was hoping to learn something from welcome to countries, but I am now ever so confused.

I'd argue you're actually not hoping to learn anything. You're just seeing how far you can push the envelope before you get thread banned for being a flog, then will complain about lefties telling you what to think.

South Of The Yarra is an excellent poster if you want to learn anything at all about Aboriginal people in Australia. He's remarkably tolerant of floggery too.

:)

Correct .... They don't care much about Australia Day itself, but they are sick to death of being told what they should think by a vocal left minority about a continuous stream of topics, therefore are at the point where they will do the opposite regardless of if they actually don't care that much about the day changing.

This shouldn't come as a surprise.... It is happening world wide with a massive shift to the right in Europe, America and Canada. I would have thought that the US election was fresh in people's minds still
To add to it people see things like this as less important when there's a cost of living and housing crisis going on. At the moment there's just zero appetite out there for progressive change.

If people were better off it would be a walk in the park to change the date. Alas the current issues along with the defeat of the voice referendum has probably snuffed out any sort chance of the date to be changed until the 2030s.

This is a salient point and one Labor MUST accept if they stand any chance of victory. Indigenous affairs are important but things like Australia Day and the Voice are not fights to be fighting right now.

I’d agree. 5 years ago even Jeff Kennett was supporting a change to the day to Jan 1st to better reflect the actual beginning of the country, but now he’s fallen back in with the “changing Aus day is wokeness” crowd.
It's really not that difficult though. Make it the Saturday of the last weekend in January where the public holiday Monday would also fall in January. It stays on the same weekend and it falls on Jan 26 once every 6 years at best.

Whatever date it’s moved to we will see the same protests and same message that we should all be deeply ashamed of our history and we are all horrible white people.

Personally I couldn’t care what date and I’d much rather it be set on the 1st Monday of February or something giving us a long weekend instead of it randomly falling midweek.

Of course, one has no impact on the other.

You’re probably (partly) right, regardless. Too many people feel pissed off with their lot in life and so decide no-one else’s wishes should be accommodated, even when those have nothing to do with one’s own plight. It’s like you get relief from being miserable if you know others are suffering more.

I think at this point in time it's a case of majority feeling ignored. It then gets to an us vs them attitude, a "my issues are being ignored why should they get anything" attitude.
It's humans being humans in the end.

No.....i am just confused whether it is 60000 or 250000? Apparently I should know, so I assume elders are aligned?

I didn’t realise Elders worked it out, and secondly why would the elders be aligned when different mobs have been around for different times.
