Not to mention taking a swing at flags and Welcome to Country ceremonies.

Good…. He is entitled to have an opinion on both. One many share on both issues…
If the best those that don’t agree with him it is to scream racist then it says more about them than him.

Oh goody, our yearly, flog the black fella time.

Seriously guys, enough.

Stay strong sis. Be proud. NAIDOC theme this year will be '"The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,"
Most of the current generation get it (spoiled by some racist clowns unfortunately) and the next generation will have our back sis. Times are changing.

I'm all for freedom of expression too, it's a shame Dutton isn't. Forcing councils to hold citizenship ceremonies on the 26th against their will doesn't seem very democratic.

This is a stalling tactic, used effectively in the republic referendum and repeated ad nauseum ever since. That's a separate decision that can made after it's determined whether most people are in favour of a new date or simply if a decision is simply made.
I'm 100% fine with a change but it has to be at a similar time of the year. If the alternative is in winter I'd change to a no.

And how do you propose agreement will be reached on a new date when there is nothing obvious?

It's at least 50,000 years. This means Aboriginal history is one of the oldest continuous histories on the planet. How cool is that right?

As an Australian (note, not British) I'm bloody proud to say I come from a place with this absolutely epic human history right at my doorstep.

Meanwhile, the British rocked up less than 250 years ago. Why would I care about celebrating relatively recent British history at the expense of this insanely cool Australian history that's actually from where I live?
Must of been epic and cool for you last NAIDOC week.

I'm sure you went to some epic events.
Managed to catch Razzy Mak,good enough but not my style.
On the other hand,Karloo Rockers made it piss.
2025 should be fun.

If you are trying to create a National day, I am not sure why the date wouldn't matter.

You'd think January 1 would be the most appropriate date. I would think that if federation happened on pretty much any other day, then the change would have happened already.

Can't give the woke mob a win, that's where we are now. There's a general consensus that January 26 is deeply flawed as a national day but any concession on that would be seen as weakness by people like Dutton. Essentially we're commemorating Australia on the 26th out of spite as much as anything else these days.

Jan 1 is already a public holiday.

Secondly, date of federation as a National day will be seen by some as too linked to colonisation.

Is there a general consensus that Jan 26 is deeply flawed though? Still seems alot support it continuing.

I think a lot of people simply don't give a shit about the 'Australia' day thing, just like a public holiday in late Jan.

I suspect many people don't actually know much at all about what happened on that specific date.

Scott Morrison wanted to recreate a journey by Cook that he never actually made for the cost of something like $60 million. Australia is built around these deliberate distortions of history.
