I disagree with others that the 2004 team had more talent, nah they didn't have more talent but boy did they have more hunger and hated losing a whole lot more more.

I was only just watching open Mike last night and they had Anthony Stevens on there and they recalled the time they beat Port in Round 1 in 2002 at Football Park, which was the first game since the Carey saga, there was a shot as the siren sounded and i can't recall who exactly but one of the Port players booted the ball away in absolute disgust. Furious about losing.

History suggests that we went on to win 18 of our next 21 to win the minor premiership, didn't get there in finals but i'd take that over the 7th - 10th spot we are likely to finish this year.

Now we get some crocodile tears and rinse and repeat. The hurtful losses are providing learning improvement lesson apparently

when he retires then. hes still a port boy. he still wanted to stay but the money is to great. (not that i will admit hes gone until i hear it from him or the club)

jesus really?
Put the team list side by side of the best 22s and 2004 is all over the current list by some way!!
On talent or output?

They've spent a lot of time learning, lots of lessons, surely they're ready for the real world by now.

Personally, I would prefer to see Hammer or even Broadbent on a wing. Bonner I would like to see back in the SANFL to work on his defensive side.
Broadbent will be lucky to play another AFL game. Lost so much pace that he was in the SANFL by the end of 2017 and could not even get on the park and play consecutive games this year. He's cooked.

What a monumental list management **** up it will be if Polec leaves.

Agreed, and to me it smacks of those in charge being, once again, out of touch with supporters and their expectations of this list.

Everything coming out of the club about Polec has been so half-arsed, and you can see it from those posters on here who have a direct line with the club as well, "he's replaceable", "he only runs one way", "wait for the trade period guys" "Polec isn't worth that." There's definitely been a sense of 'oh well if he leaves so what' which to me shows shit management and an inability to see the real weaknesses of our list (pace and skills), which is no surprise given other terrible list management decisions (ie the ruck fiasco) that have probably directly cost us a shot at a premiership.

Losing Polec is a disaster for our supposed premiership window. Trying to spin it any other way is just the club pissing on our heads and telling us it's raining.

Rucci has an article up about the contract offer to Polec confirming a five year $750K/year offer, with $1 million in the first year.

Chris Davies says we are still working with Polec and his management, that Polec wants to stay so they are continuing to go back and forth to come to an agreement.

He also says Polec has four suitors, North, St Kilda, Sydney and Carlton.

I'd hand all of Motlop, Watts and Rockliff back now if it meant keeping Polec.
What a monumental list management **** up it will be in Polec leaves.

Reportedly we have plenty of cap space. The issue isn't recruiting Motlop, Watts and Rockliff, that's irrelevant. The issue is that Norf are offering him well above market value.

Just because you can afford to do something doesn't mean you should. If I was a millionaire I still wouldn't pay $10 for a cup of coffee. Now we could argue that in this analogy Jared Polec is a particularly good cup of coffee and maybe in your opinion he would be worth paying that extra for, and TBH I personally would agree with you, but either way the issue isn't affordability, which means the issue isn't Motlop/Watts/Rockliff.

Have you seen his Mrs ?? No wonder he lets her call the shots.

His Mrs is so much better looking than him that cashiers put the plastic dividers down in the middle of their groceries.
Yep. Given his scenario I dont blame him for letting his Mrs call the shots.

I doubt he was in high demand pre-footy and he probably isn't that confident.

North and Gubby are desperate for a big signing.
The excitement on the aNorf board is palpable ( yet most of them don’t want to give up anything of value for him)
The outcome and what we receive in return will be the biggest test of CD And c.
We seem to do fair deals when bringing in players.
Let’s hope North are reasonable too.
Their first pick and a player or two picks.

If you are right about the cap space then you are correct. I still hold out hope Polec is holding out to see what Lycett gets paid when he arrives.

I laugh at the suggestion that losing Polec in a premiership window would be a disaster. How about this club shows some mental fortitude by winning the games it should be winning with Polec in the side.

Polec had huge question marks about his foot last year. To lock him into a longterm deal would have been complete lunacy.

If Polec goes, North will know they're gonna need to give up their first rounder, despite what some of their bellend supporters on BF would have you believe. That'll leave them needing to make up some draft points to get Taryn Thomas. But Port aren't just going to give that up for no reason.

If he does go, I could see the deal being Polec plus a bundle of lateish picks for #11 plus someone like Preuss or Durdin. Or maybe North's 2019 second rounder or something like that rather than a player. Would suit both parties.

Unless our resident magician The Smaller Warrior can somehow make Gaff appear on our list next year, I'm struggling to think who is available to replace him with.

Most are saying that he's not worth $700k a year, but that's now. What about next year when the rule changes come in and wingers become potentially the most important position on the ground?

Can anyone confirm the strong rumor going around that the coaches are considering using the off-season to groom the microwave to take over his position?

If so, then nothing to be concerned about ... We have his loss well covered!

I would take the microwave over Karl Amon

I would have preferred the Trade Shouter to be quite definite in saying that Polec would leave. Because whatever that twat says, the opposite happens.

That was my hope. He's been burned so often by his Port calls in the past, he is on the fence this time unsurprisingly.
