Sort of hoping the Saints may come in late with a big $$$ offer also. They need some polish and could hopefully be swayed to part with their pick #4 for Polec + one of our other picks..... here's hoping anyway. Would see us with picks in the vicinity of #4 / #12 / #22 / #30. Definitely allow us to pick up one of the 3 SA boys or another sought after player with our first.

Agree...in today's business world which is how AFL should be viewed here is a brief overview;
- 750K x 5 yrs with an upfront $1M is TOO good to pass, plus his partner and her family from Melbourne makes this a sensible decision by Polly...In fact almost a no brainer. Consider his history with foot troubles Polly has maybe his last opportunity to sign a long term deal with a lucrative return....and good luck to him.
- On the other hand if Port paid that it would be IRRESPONSIBLE of Port particularly if a player is subject to foot issues and has to be managed....Polly is a very good player but like all players has limitations and everyone is replaceable such is life in the business world..as Macca so rightly points out we negotiate strongly with North and other suitors and go to the draft/trade which is considered the very best in years with additional selections.
- and YES our list management must deliver and I think they have done that very well over the last 2-3 yrs.

Sorry to intrude, but I think even the majority of people on our board think that, despite the fact that we need a player with outside run and skills like Polec, $750k x 5 on the surface appears too steep at this stage of his career.

Time will obviously tell if he is worth that (look at Kelly, who's value has probably now escalated to $1.5M per year after his performances this year) and it is easy to see how things can change very quickly (although could quite easily go the other way as well).

What about Carlton? If they get a priority pick ie pre Rd 1 not post Rd 1. You just know if the Vic centric AFL will do anything to get a bottom team 6 times on Friday night, are potentially liable to give a great priority pick deal to a "big" Vic club.

Carlton take one of the King twin brothers with pick 1 trade pick 2 to Port for Polec. Polec is supposedly talking to North, Saints, Carlton and Sydney according to Rooch in today's paper.

Chance of happening very very very slim, but if Carlton get pick 1 and 2, it becomes a WNBG.

I think this is the key to our thinking. Yes North seem to be the one at the front of this discussion. But we're in the box seat to take whichever club offers up the best deal. So Sydney is out for starters. Let the games begin with the other three.

At a minimum Gold Coast will have pick 2 + 3 as a compo for Lynch.

But if the AFL give both Carlton and GC a pre Rd 1 priority pick, then the order is
1 Carlton, 2 GC, 3 Carlton, 4 GC, 5 GC (compo for Lynch)

Those bastards at the AFL are a chance to do this sort of shit.
 
Don't forget ... he is not a free agent .. Port have the upper hand ... If any club does not meet what Port want ... well ...
He can go in the draft and Carlton can have him ... Remember this happened to another ex Port player .. :D

He is already playing good footy, but that still doesn't mean he's worth what North are offering.
 
While we’re still fighting it out for a finals finish and a good position we simply can’t drop Polec even if he has told them he plans on leaving. He’s important to our team and we still need to focus on this season. If we were out of finals contention then I’d be happy for him not to play.

Would love him to stay but if he’s demanding that much coin as what’s apparently been offered, then he can walk for a good trade
