News Jarrad Schofield departs for West Coast

I'm over it now listening to Schoey rattle on about going to a big club like West Coast for the umpteenth time, he was always looking around not invested by the sound of it & his midfield played accordingly when it mattered.
He signed an extension over 6 weeks ago so he was looking around? reassessed 3 weeks ago when told there was going to be a reshuffle? What senior coach advises changes to the assistants' roles on the eve of the finals?

I knew that would be tweeted as click bait. He was asked the question and he answered it. Let’s not turn it into more than it is.
As PAFC66 said, not mentioning Ollie is interesting. He was so far clear of everyone this year.

The extension is meaningless when he knows he can fck off for a slight promotion elsewhere. Nothing but a job security measure if nothing eventuates.

So be it if that's the case. Schoey knocked back offers from WCE and Adel to come to Port. I'll never believe it wasn't Hinkley white-anting him.

People on here complain about the media twisting what’s said but that stuff happens here. I heard the interview and Schofield didn’t really give anything away regarding the narrative here re changes in who coaches what line next year. He basically said it was normal to discuss these things and for coaches to swap lines every so often. He gave no indication it was one of the reasons he was leaving. People read what they want into it.

Neither will I.

Hinkley has been afraid of losing his job ever since he set foot in Alberton.

This exacerbates fear of failure - something he is good at.

Fear begets pessimism begets stubbornness. And there you have Ken Hinkley.

So where does Koch come into all this?

Inexperience. Unsuitability for the task of man-management of a large pressure operation as against a small family media firm of which he is patriarch. Inability to professionally manage a board of directors containing zero relatives.

Unwillingness to grow, to mature, past the novelty of “David Koch, Chairman, Port Adelaide Football Club” and the personal fame of “Co-host SUNRISE, The TV Whizz Kid who took a 150-year old Football Club out of the swamp, past the national stage into China, who personally recruited Michael Voss and, and SAVED Port Adelaide single-handed …” becoming “The TV Ratings Master who took HIS football club to its third losing preliminary final … and really bombed.”

What do I do? My TV ratings! My TV ratings! If I‘m seen to lose three prelims in a row … what will my fans think of me? What do I do?

I can’t fire Ken! I’ve never done that before! I’ve never fired anyone! I made Ken a promise!

What do I do?

”Help me, Lib. Please!”

”Try delegation, David. It works for everyone else. Delegate!”

”But I’ll look weak, Lib.“

”No, David, you’ll look like the real Chairman of the Port Adelaide Football Club.”

Nah, I listened to the interview there was nothing in it at all. He was asked to pick one player and he laughed and said that would get him in too much trouble. You could tell he didn't really want to play the game. He gave valid reasons for his picks, it made for interesting radio but seriously all the interview showed was that he was offered a chance for a better job with more money about 4 weeks ago and he took the opportunity. He loves Port Adelaide, enough that he's happy to keep his son there. I think people are reading way to much into this. Assistant coaches have had a really tough year working more hours for less dough. Schofield had only worked at a WAFL level before joining us so he needs to go and work at a few clubs not just West Coast.

Was it Russell Evans REH?

I know he was in the RAAF around that time and then got into leadership development after finishing at the RAAF.
It could be him, but I have a big blank in my mrmory who it was as I had never heard of the guy when Ray McLean talked about him. I lived in Sydney from the early 90"s so a lot of those fringe players, I dont always know who they are.

This is the kind of thinking I'm referring to when I refer to Koch as having a small business mentality. The fear of losing face combined with arrogance is, in my experience, quite common amongst a certain type of SME owner.

Just listened to the first 20 minutes of Cornes' conversation with Ray McLean and it was indeed Russell Evans. He was a physical training instructor at the RAAF and worked with Ray,, and Allan Stewart had asked Russell and another RAAF training instructor to help him with the fitness side of their preseason camp. Russell knew Stewart wanted more than just the physical side to the camp, so he introduced Ray to Stewart. They met for a couple of hours, sussed each other out and went from there.

For 2019, 2020 and 2021 we had the same 5 main coaches - Hinkley, Voss, Bassett, Schofield, and Monty. Add in Lokan and Chad to that list and you have one of Koch's favourite things - stability.

He wasn't that keen on stability when Mel Doyle was getting a bit too popular ;)
