Came back after the achilles injury which is often a career ending injury to go on and play some of his best ever footy. Returned after a cancer scare where he then played an integral part in securing the threepeat. Returned again after an even more serious cancer scare to captain the club. Has been an absolute legend of the club and one the greatest contributors in an era of #unprecedented success.

Love the big Rough.

I have to admit when I learned the cancer had possibly spread to his lungs, I feared the absolute worst.
Fast forward to this weekend, and this opposition supporter will dip his lid to Roughy and clap him onto and off the ground whether it's a win, loss or draw. I'm jusy glad he's healthy, let alone back playing great footy.
Well done Roughy.

Coming into his 250th the Big Rough is leading all Hawks for time on ground this season, a very close second is Jack Gunston

despite the amount of time he's playing up the ground he's still our leading goal kicker and has taken the most marks inside 50 out of any Hawk this year

in last weeks game against the Swans he had 12 disposals in the fourth quarter and kicked an important goal

It's amazing to think how far he has come this year as a leader and as a player, the effort he is putting in considering what his fitness was like September last year when he started training again is an example of why he was chosen as Captain

Just watched the Hawks website video, one word on Rough. Majority of the boys had one word... skip or skipper, the young boys, our future. The guard has changed.

It's been a strange year, we see off The General but Hawthorn remains the powerhouse. Happy 250th big man, an inspiration to me and so many x

I saw that, Josh Gibson didn't seem to understand what "In a word" meant. He thought it was "In a short sentence".

Loves the limelight.

He's lucky Plugger and Dunstall existed or he'd go down as one of the roughest heads of all time.

A champion and a Hawk through and through. Brown and Gold Legend.
Not sure about that, Mick Martin says Hi

It's been a pleasure watching another Hawthorn great reach a significant milestone. And Rough has fought and conquered a far greater battle than what the average footballer has faced.

Good luck Rough. Looking forward to seeing your 300 as well.

On his career to date…
"I don't feel blessed, at least not yet. Once you're set and done I will, but for now I'm focused on winning another flag. The next goal is to win one more, then that's one more than 'Lewy' (former teammate Jordan Lewis) and one more than 'Mitch' (former teammate Sam Mitchell). I'll be quick to let those guys know. The fact you are doing it here, at the same club for 13 years – it has been pretty special."

I'm probably reading too much into this but... does this feel like maybe Rough is a little bitter about Lewis and Mitchell leaving the club?

EDIT - I probably should've kept reading.

On best mates Lance Franklin and Jordan Lewis leaving the club
"As a Hawthorn fan, you'd say it would be nice for all three of us to finish at the same club, but look at the circumstances under which they left. 'Bud' got a life-changing deal and 'Jord' got three years he probably wouldn't have got here, so you begin to understand that footy's a business more than anything. Once you take the emotion out of it, that will all be forgotten."

I am flying over for the game and it will be great to see Roughie run out for his 250th.

As an added bonus I will be drinking all day for free, my best mate (who is a Richmond member) has got me in as a guest at the Richmonds Presidents lunch. :)

Careful you don't misbehave Taz, and get kicked out before the game. We know how delicate these tiger fans are.;)

Let's celebrate our Captain for making it to 250 games

Drafted in 2004 at pick 2

He took a while to find his feet, and his hair style

He tasted Success in 2008 kicking 75 goals for the year as the foil to Buddy

He's kicked over 70 goals in a season three times so far, he's won a Coleman medal and lead the Hawks goal kicking twice.

He's had his future questioned numerous times, first when he snapped his Achilles tendon, then again when serious illness struck and he was diagnosed with cancer not once but twice.

Along the way he's stayed that laid back country boy that everyone in the league loves

Swans on the other hand....

On Sunday he will become just the 14th player at Hawthorn to reach 250 games, and currently sits 6th on the Hawks all time for goals.

He's the last remaining member of the 2004 draft to still be playing for the club and a true Hawthorn Champion

So get down there Sunday if you can to see the great man hit the MCG for game number 250

Aussie rules true followers, just love their tried and true champions, this is a good bloke too. Just a good bloke. And he's a Hawk.
